I just read a thread where Tony B's whippet called Spud is 15 years old this year and really made me wonder how old some of your whippies have grown to or what age they made when they unfortunately passed away?

:)

This is my lovely old boy Max. Taken about 8 months ago. He was a rescue from the pound, so we don't know his real age, but he was fully grown when we got him. We have had him just over twelve years

Two of my boys are only ten,but i do have a friend with a seventeen year old whippet and a near neighbour had one who lived to nineteen.

The seventeen year old looks much younger,he's a blue but very very grey now bless him.

LOVELY TO SEE AND HEAR ABOUT OLDER DOGS .HOPE TO SEE MORE

My first Whippet Willow was 16+ when we lost her. The rest always had great respect for her even when she couldnt see very well.

My grandad had one who was 17+, he lived off the radiator and didn't eat enough to keep a sparrow alive but he was a lovely old lad.

The whippet i had when i a child was 14 when he passed away.... he was the world to me... had so much character... never had a whippet since him.

MY MUM HAD A BLUE WHIPPET WITHWHITE TRIM, WHO HAD TO BE PTS AT THE AGE OF 23, SHE WAS IN THE GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS AS THE OLDEST DOG WITHA PEDIGREE . THIS WAS AROUND THE 60'S :huggles:

How incredible! If only my beloved Dessie Whippet had lived to that sort of age instead of just 14 ..................... it still wouldn't have been long enough. :(

That is a wonderful age. :huggles:

ALTHOUGH QUITE OK IN HER SELF, UNFORTUNATELY HER LEGS GAVE WAY ON HER,AND SHE DIDNT LIKE TO BE 'HELPED' ABOUT. SO TO SAVE FURTHER SUFFERING SHE WAS PTS :( :(

I took in a rescue whippet many years ago who i was told was 2 years old & had sprained a muscle in her leg :- "

The leg was infact broken & had been for some time, so long infact it had reset itself in a peculiar fashion & when we finally traced her pedigree she was actually 5 years old!!!

An operation put the leg right & she lived till 16 and a half & ran around as right as rain.

She went blind bless her when she was around 14 but still coped considerably well until she had a massive stroke at 16 and a half which she never recovered from & had to be pts.

I have 2 very elderly IG's at the moment one of 14 and a half & one of 15 who i fear her kidneys are starting to fail but she is still eating fine & although now totally blind manages to get around ok. I am dreading the inevetible :(

I know an IG recently who died of 23 which is just fantastic & went to a poodle show last year when a little white Toy walked in the Veteran class at 24 years old (w00t)

She still looked fab with pink bows & matching collar bless her & won the class

OMG (w00t)

Makes you wonder in years to come what age they'll live to

My first little whippet Lady was 16 too - a fantastic ripe age. :)

Wow there are some grand ages on this thread!

Our Bichon is coming up to 13 this year and is still quite spritely when he wants to be .... usually when he has 2 whippie pups clamped on his tail lol

:D

Lagunas are famously long-lived - Gelert's g-grandmother died a couple of years ago aged 17, and a couple of other relatives belonging to Lilah have recently passed on at 16 and 18. His mother and uncle (Laguna via Black Lance) were still around aged 14 last summer. I'd better not tempt Providence any more... :sweating:

There was a whippet x missing in Swansea a few years back aged 20!
