I have suceeded in persuading an ex horse person to turn her hand to Whippet showing. She has recently retired and wants a whippet for a companion. She has owned whippets in the past but has never bothered to show them. There is a very sweet dog puppy that due to unfortunate circumstances is looking for a new home locally. He is 6 months old and stands just under 20". Is he going to grow much more and be too big for showing. Views please.

Its really hard to say without seeing him or knowing his breeding. Some grow on til 12 months other are finished at 5/6 months. Has he got nobbly front knees? or are the front of his front legs flat all the way down. At the size he is now he is fine to show but what about the other parts are they ok. Are his ears neat and not sticking right up, does he carry his tail in a gentle curve or is it over his back, is his mouth ok.

Hope this helps, probably makes things worse. Its a bit of a pet hate with me Im afraid. People bang on about how big the breed can be but ignore the massive wide front and over wide rear movement, thick waist with no tuck up ................

If your friend showed horses she will have an advantage, she needs to look for a thoroughbred not a suffolk punch!

Nothing wrong with a suffolk Punch after all they are a rare breed even if not my choice of horse. (Sorry just stirring) :b .

I would like to think of mine as Arabians rather than Thoroughbreds

Agree with you Karen ,hope my Whippets don`t have dished faces ,or high tail carraige.!! :D
