im interested to know how much people are prepared to pay for a pup the most i have paid is 220 which turned out to be a bad investment . i will not be purchasing from anybody else as i intend to rear my own

neil did you get a bank loan you could of had a well reared greyhound for that

Neil,

Do you mind me asking which dog it was for or how it was bred?

hi denise.  it wasnt a pup (it was the saint ) he woudnt

run for us, though he looked promising when (my wife bought it) i woudnt pay that for a whippet. we gave him to rick bently ,but dont think it as done anything for him either.

The most I ever paid was £60.00, but to be honest I would pay alot more if it was the breeding i really liked.

You've got to draw the line somewhere though!

After all there is no guarantee!!!!!!

Compared to the upkeep cost of a dog the purchase price is insignificant. I`d happily pay over £500 for the right pup.The rub is you don`t know it`ll be the right pup.

We asked to go to shooting star with hobgoblin but they wanted 1st bitch pick as fee for the mating.Since this what we want out of the mating and it`s value to us is difficult to measure in monetary terms - what would you pay for such a bitch (BTW  we have a pup out of Hobgoblin and it`s really promising) ,so we declined the offer. She`s, hopefully, off to Xspell but it wouldn`t break my heart if Xstatic did the job.

I wouldn't dream of paying anywhere near £500 for a pup, not because i'm tight but for the simple reason that you've got no proof it's going to be any good, maybe an adult dog i'd consider it.

I think Sasperella turned out to be a good buy for Sharon but she had already shown that she could run.

There were some Lurcher pups in Countryman's Weekly a couple of years ago for sale at £1000 claiming to be off the best coursing dogs in the country, my grandad met one whilst he was shooting in scotland and he said he wouldn't look twice at it in the dogs home, it was timid and hiding behind it's owner who eventually just had it as a pet because it wouldn't chase anything.

hi neil the saint did look very good as a pup when he was for sale at oldhall champs i wanted to buy him for darrren the young lad that comes with us racing but he would not let me. rickys still got him runs in the handicap at horden of a great mark to win i think ricky said something about him getting castrated and he thought that was the problem some dogs never run the same after that take a look at rapid fire won champion of champions then got the snip never run again he would of made a great stud dog what do you think. as far as paying for oler dogs we got smurfete given fullstop given and bluegoblin cost £40 petrol money when ken brought her up to kingsley for us.denise:biggrin:

i think rapid fire would have been a fantastic stud dog i was always impressed with him  as for the saint (connor) we had to have him casterated as the vet said  the testicle which was stuck up in his groin was affecting him resulting in countless injuries and his other testicle was the size of a pea and very hard this had to come off because it could have turned cancerous so in the end we tried everything we could for him and he still wouldnt perform as we knew he could ricky liked him so after much thought we decided to let him have conner to see if he would run for someone else hope he is keeping well  are u going to highgate if it is held there?

yes well be there what will you be running did you get that stuff for wonderwalls groin if you did he may be okay for then denise.....

hi denise we did have him castrated as we were advised . is testacles were (one stook in his groin the other had dropped but hadn,t develloped properly)

and could have caused cancer.i have heard that castration either ruins the dog or improve him,  we did what we thought was best for the dog.

denise. i didn't know debbie my wife had already replied to you about the saint.as for wonderwall ive used iodised oil on. kept him on lead for over two weeks, and just started walking him(good walks) will start to let him do his own thing again now, i mainly take all dogs out onto pit top abd let them run ragged for 20 minutes , then home  rubbed down check their feet ,feed them then put them away.the bloke who checks my dogs for me says the dog wont agrivate a groin strain by free running as he will not open up as much as hed like to.

i think apart from him being overweight hes starting  to look well.fingers crossed il be at highgate, may start to school boomtown rat middle of january.

hi neil dont think ive heard of boomtown rat is that one of your pups im just going to start back with bluegblin shes going to take alot of work after her litter just cut her grub back a little bit shes like a pig ps did you get your card i sent you/...denise

hi denise . yes i have just seen the card its very good.

boomtown rat is two years old now, i havent run him much hes out of crazy cracker x white xmas, hes only 18lb and very small.(to me he is anway) it was debbie who wanted him as you know i like the bigger dogs. hes only small but is the noisiest of the lot. i also had to have him castrated  as they didn't drop at all. but ive heard thats not unusual for crazy cracker pups. is this true do you think.

Hi Denise & Neil,

I too always fancied Rapid Fire, he was lovely looking, well bred and had speed to burn, pity he will never produce any pups.

Didn't Boomtown Rat win at the Puppy Champs a while ago?

Why don't we have a new thread for Castration etc as i know the peds sometimes have this trouble too!!!  None of my dogs have ever had this problem so i haven't had much experience of it.

hi vicky yes he  did only because there was only him in the race .

Orrr Poor Lad, Mind you, you can only beat what turns up, i think puppy racing has been few and far between the last year or so, i know that our 1 year old was struggling for competitors the back end of last year, maybe it has just been a bad couple of years for pups.

ps Cool card Denise!!!!

i still dont think you can judge pups on puppy racing, its

when they get with the adults you can start to judge them, although i do agree with puppy racing and yearling racing gives them a chance to mature abit.
