This Victorian seaside landmark has been destroyed by fire this morning, how tragic for the town that's desperately been trying to reinvent itself for this century, but still hanging on to its Victorian landmarks.

It maybe a very cliched seaside town but I love it - as do many others.

That is so sad, I remember South Sea Pier going up in flames when they were making the film Tommy with Elton John, Tina Turner and the lead singer of the Who Roger Daltry. That was a Victorian pier too.

The trouble is, they are never the same if they are replaced, most are just left.

I have only seen Weston's pier once, when we went the wrong way and ended up doing a trip along the sea front!!!!!!!!!

what a shame, many piers have gone the same way :(

How sad :( I love this pier too,it will never be the same :(

Oh my that is awful!

I have fond memories of the pier and love it in Weston, just will not be the same without it.

I bet people who have grown up there are devastated.

Oh dear :(

This is such a shame.

I hope they try to resurrect this pier :luck:

Saw it on the news this morning.....such a shame isnt it... :(

I think it looks great on your photograph there...

Awww they've just had the whole news programme from there - people are gutted by it. I know its only a pier and the best thing was that no one was hurt, but its still sad - the guy who owns it has vowed to rebuild, he's only owned it since feb and hhas just done aa million quid refit.

ive just seen it on the news as well clair, how very sad :(

This is sad but at least no one was hurt The owner has vowed to rebuild the pier l

This is sooo sad ...OH and myself have been on days out at Weston since we were kids as it was our closest sea side resort ......I still can't look down at the floor to the sea as we walk the pier :x :b . We still have days out there now with Benjamin and the dogs ...... I know the new owner has injected a lot of money into the pier to attract more people, I do hope it gets rebuilt as closely to its originality as possible.

I know its silly but I had a tear today - so many happy memories from when I was younger and then since I was old enough to drive it was always a day out with my Mum and Dad every summer - with me and my Dad being secret gamblers at heart we spent many a happy hour on the pier. Has just made me think of my Dad all day.
