Hello, at what weight does a dog change from being a lightweight to middleweight to heavyweight......

ie.   lightweight  16lb------20lb

     Middleweight 21lb------????

     Heavyweight  ????------????

this subject was brought up last night among some of us who were talking on the PC and it does seem there are a lot of heavier dogs of late ....... ???

As you know pat there are 17 one lb weight groups in the BWRA handicap and 20 one lb weight groups in the Fed handicap, therefore if you wish to devide them by the three groups ( light, medium, and heavy) you would get 2 differing answers. My own feelings on this is that lightweight is up to and including 21lbs, middle weight 22lbs to 27lbs and above are heavy weights. That is what i think when someone says light weight or heavy weight etc. But i am not the be all and end all of this subject and anyone can have a different opinion from myself, infact i have heard it said that there are only two groups, light and heavy, one mans meat, another mans poison. I doubt if this has helped you any but this is how i see the weight groups when chopped into three.

Thanks John for your reply, I class lightweights upto 20lb and middleweights upto 25lb over 25 i think are heavyweights...........what are other peoples views. ;)that'l get replies.......

;)   ;)   :p

At BWRA champs;

upto 16lb,18lb,20lb,- lightweight

upto 22lb,24lb,26lb - middleweight

upto 28lb,30lb,32lb - heavweight,

which I think is a fair and reasonable enough classification.

Thats good enough for me tony and michelle, not far enough apart to argue the point, not that we need to argue it.

last night whilst talking on the PC some one asked me what weight i thought was heavyweight, i said we all think differently but i would ask on here what every one else thought,  and no we do not need to argue the point about anything really, do we?????????????

55lb should be the limit,as far no limits i think, but i class 26 as middle weight

:D

Hi, if racing whippets came down to 28lb then 26lb would be heavyweight as it was before the limit was altered, i agree with you there neil there should be a weight limit even for the no limit dogs................. :p

i would like to hear what the baroness minges views on this subject are and would some kind person please tell me when there was a 28 lb limit imposed i always thought it had been 32lb limit and that was the reason the fed was formed to give those with the larger dogs a chance to run up to 36lb

As far as i know the BWRA have never raced up to 28lb.

Certain clubs years ago i think ran a weight limit of 28lb but that was about 45+ years ago before a lot of greyhound blood was introduced.

You may be right there Vicky, I have been looking for our old whippet news and can't find them before the year 1969 (some one must have borrowed them  ) still 28lb is a good weight ... 32lb definately is a big dog when running into the lure  and onto your little un... :D

well the only good idea that has been put forward so far is that of John G,  that is to have two supremes , lightweight and heavyweight , hope this goes through then we will all be happy, or will we............ ;)   :p   :D

To have two supremes is not possible as the word supreme means- unsurpassed -first- final -incomparable -matchless -top= ultimate- utmost -predominant -greatest- to name but a few defintions of the word. There are a lot more important things that need to be altered in this sport first -like attracting others into it and less talk of banning things  for whatever reasons . I would also like to thank pat for putting me in the picture with regard  to the 28lb inquiry

  who mentioned banning any thing from any thing , i dont think we have on this topic or am i wrong !!!!! again.. ;)
