is it up or down? I have fed both, though burns only to my spaniel.
She is overweight. Think Ruby is too :wacko: I've booked them both in to weightwatchers at the vets on Thursday so I'll let u know what they say

What are you feeding at the moment and how much? Also how much exercise do the girls get each day?
I have heard that Royal Canin is good for dogs with the opposite problem to Lacey!

their half sister jessie is the same :b as much running and roadworking as we can manage , lamping and ferreting and still a chunks!!! i have halved her food again lately and she is now getting a waist , nellie emmas sister is also prone to weight gain

I think they also do a diet food?
We do try and vary their meals. Some days they have half a pack of raw meat between them mixed with a little pasta or half a can of tinned food with a small amount of mixer. Thats at lunch time then in the evening a tin of sardines each with a little mixer or bakers complete. Or a chicken wing each with mixer.
They have a good hours run a day and lead walking in the evening.

Bakers Complete has got to be an absolute NO NO - it's full of chemical additives and has no benefit at all to any dog.
It does sound as though you are feeding quite a "fattening" diet what with the sardines, pasta, tinned food etc and, TBH, you need to either choose a complete diet, such as Burns, James Wellbeloved, Arden Grange etc or go down the raw feeding route, just adding bonemeal to their main meal and maybe some veg if you want. Also make sure they get raw bones to chew as well if you go down the raw route.
If you feed raw in the right quantities, you will ultimately reach the correct weight for your girl - around 2% of normal bodyweight daily as a rule of thumb.
Another tip I've heard over the years is never to mix a complete food (either dry or tinned) with raw food - a dog's digestive system isn't built to cope with it and the food won't get processed properly.
I know it seems "nice" to vary their diet, but they don't view food in the way we, as humans, do, so having the same thing every day isn't a bore to them - especially if it's raw and natural!!!!! :thumbsup:

Hello Della Kaya your Ruby's sister is fine no weight problem at all.
But my Sada is prone to be on the heavy side. And i must admit she has
me beat, she eats less than the other two, gets plenty of exercise but is

royal canin is only any good if you want to pay for ur vets new 4x4 it has BHA in it which is used on kitchen work tops, and
it can also cause cancer . royal canin is very expensive **** . barf diet is the most natural way to feed ur dogs.
i always say if ur not prepared to eat it ur self dont feed it to ur dogs!
as for pedigree and bakers YUK! YUK! YUK!
and burns is 64% brown rice ud b better off boiling a pot of rice urself, and dogs cant digest brown rice very well its used as a filler.

have you tried Salters the nearest thing to feeding the barf diet in biscuit form...all natural
they do puppy, maintainance, performance, and a seniour/light no colours, preservatives, or addictives in it.

Some dogs Eh? Have got a lurcher here that seems to be getting plumper every year lol He is seven years old now and will never again look quite as trim as he was from 2 to 5 years old . Is it an age thing ? cause cant remember how old you said the dog was ? So it is either middle age spread or puppy fat
Saw that too, am just coming to terms with it, will take time though
