Wee (straight to the point!)

What is the normal colour of dog wee?
The reason I ask is because I was looking at all the yellow patches of snow in the garden and I thought if that was human wee you would be classed as dehydrated.
I think I’ve got that right for humans in the clearer it is the more hydrated you are. Does this not apply to dogs?

It is the same as in humans, paler is better and darker usually means more concentrated, usually from dehydration. However, if it is the first wee of the morning I notice Timber's usually is darker too, just from holding overnight. If you do want him to drink a little more, adding a small amount of milk (provided he can tolerate lactose), brine from a can of tuna, or broth from boiling meat or chicken to the water bowl can encourage drinking.

For humans, a light straw-coloured, erm, colour shows correct hydration (got that form my dirt biking days!). Dog's wee does seem a bit darker from what I've seen. I remember being out all day once years ago on my bike, no toilet break and it was warm too so I was thirsty, when I got home I was peeing soup! I thought that information might make everyone feel good

I just reread it and realised I hadn' been clear about adding stuff to the water bowl - I've amended it!

Dog’s wee what’s normal and what’s not?

Orange wee/urine- sign of jaundice, liver disease, and major dehydration.

Red/pink wee/urine- main sign is UTI (urinary tract infection), could be a blood clotting disease, in some rare occasions cancer.

Brown wee/urine- this is a serious emergency (take your dog to the vet ASAP), this could be a muscle injury due to trauma, exposure to toxins and could be a breakdown of red blood cells.

Yellow wee is normal for our dogs but if your worried go to your vet.

If your dog has suddenly started drinking more water than normal this could be a sign of, diabetes, Cushing’s disease, and even leptospirosis.

This is only a few things that could be abnormal for our dogs wee.
