Weaving Whippet

Hello, I read much more than I post, but I thought I would share this video of my boy having fun. He hadn't had any training for a month but my nieces wanted to see him do a few things so this is what we did

He obviously adores doing what he does...I love the way that he looks for approval from you everytime he finishes a discipline, he is lovely!

That is fantastic. I have new weaving poles in the garage waiting for spring and some milder weather so we can get them out and play. Hate to think how long it will take me to get my lot to do that let alone become as proficient as your lovely whippet. I do obedience with all mine and Tilly and Milo trialled for Crufts a few weeks ago, Milo didn't make the grade 'cos he fell into a coma as soon as he walked through the door (on his back, legs in the air and snoring) and Tilly, who is usually bomb proof, decided she didn't like the huge fan in the wall that kept banging with the gale force wind and horizontal rain outside. She didn't take her eyes off the fan and completely blanked me which she has never ever done. Hey ho, maybe next year.

Both of mine train and compete in Agility, Obedience, Jumpers and soon Rally-o.

Lewis has his CCD(Community Companion Dog) Title and his Endurance title.

Rommi has a pass towards her CD title and also one each in Jumpers and agility.

They are great fun to train adn have loads of enthusiasm, especially Lewis

Sorry to hear Tilly and Milo didn't make it into the Crufts trials, I would love to see some Whippets doing obedience at Crufts, to me they are the best kept secret of the dog sport world. I love training mine and have to say they make me laugh often. Lets hope they are in next year and I can watch them on TV!

Thank you he does enjoy it, and I am a bit biased but I think he is lovely as well

Gorgeous whippy, just love the total concentration in the obedience work.. despite the squealing kids, he never takes his eyes off you. I've got a lovely racing boy, only 3, but has had to retire early with a shoulder injury, and would love him to take up another discipline when he is stronger. he is in no pain and loving life, but will never be strong enough to race again. I want him to have his special time with his mum and not have to watch my other boy always having all the attention when he goes racing with me. Do you think 4-5 years old would be too old to start him on a bit of obedience. I'm prett ancient so know I could never do agility, and zephyr would put his shoulder under too much strain, but obedience would be fu.n.

Having been involved with training dogs for years I can assure you that a 4 or 5 year old can be trained up to a good standard. I'd suggest you look round for a APDT trainer near you, have a word with them then go along and have fun with your dog.

Sometimes if you start them a little older it may take a little longer but they can still learn and still do well. It will be loads of fun and you will both have some great one on one time.

I hope your boy gets over his injury very soon and can get on with some training and playing - which is how they see it. Mine think they get to play, then they get a reward as well - whats not too like

Thanks guys.. Thats encouraging, we'll both look forward to starting a new skill with him. Hate leaving him behind when go racing with young dog Drift, but Zeph is getting used to it,and I know it would wind him up and probably do his unstable shoulder no good at all. we are taking it slowly and building up the exercise, with use of TENS machine as well, and as soon as he is more "sound", I will really look forward to starting some obedience withhim. thanks for your interest and advice.
