9'" January 2005
Dear Secretary,
Following our meeting on 11th December 2004 I would like to update you with matters discussed.
Directional Seeding.
We are introducing a pilot scheme for the 2005 season; please find enclosed the proposal forms.
I would also like to clarify the criteria that will have to be met for a successful Directional Seeding Application.
Section A-B. Both the Racing Manager and the Club Secretary have to agree that the dog concerned is at risk of causing injury to other dogs or itself within the first six strides after leaving the traps by either, moving to the left or the right without any concern for what may be in its path.
The following will not qualify for Directional Seeding.
A dog that exits the trap and moves left or right behind other dogs without causing any danger to others.
A dog that wants to lay on another dog when exiting the traps.
A dog which only moves left or right occasionally, it has to consistently be a danger to other dogs by moving left or right.
Section C-D. 2 Consecutive trials must be approved, failure to complete this will result in the application being refused and no further applications can be made during that season.
No WCRA Committee Member may have any involvement in these trials if there is a conflict of interest.
If we feel the seeding should continue for the following year (2006) all dogs will be required to re-apply.
Please note that this scheme is being introduced in the interest of our dogs safety and not for individuals to gain an unfair advantage on the race track, the seeding will only apply to SCRATCH STRAIGHT RACING.
Veteran Weight Groups.
Due to the increase in dogs in the Veteran 6-7 years weight groups during 2003/2004 Championships we have decided to create a additional weight group to avoid the possibility of quarter finals and to give the heavier dogs an even chance.
The Weight Groups will now be as follows for 2005 Veteran 6-7 years N/E 19lbs - 23lbs - 27lbs - 32lbs
No other changes have been made in the Veteran Groups.
Reduction in the number of Opens.
At the Talk-In Clubs voiced their concerns about the diminishing number of people attending Club meetings and the ever growing number of Opens being held, we will now enforce the Superstars Rules as they are written which means Affiliated Clubs are entitled to stage TWO Opens that are eligible for Superstars Points, only if one is a straight and one is a bend.
We can only emphasize that you the Clubs must lead the way in the reduction of Opens that you hold if you feel that the future of racing is being threatened.
We will be holding all Championship meetings at Moreton in Marsh for the next 3 years and have now placed a secure container on the cricket field.
This years dates are as follows: 1st May - 19th June - 7th August - 25th Setember
I would like to remind you to forward a copy of your rules and a list of Committee members together with your affiliation fee of £45 for the year 2005, these should be received prior to the 1st March 2005. Please forward the information required as early as possible as passport stickers cannot be issued until affiliation requests are met.
A 2005 Club Secretaries list will be forwarded to you as soon as the above information is received from all Clubs.
Just a reminder that the Whippet Club AGM is to be held on 26th March 2005 at Horspath, Nr Oxford, tickets may be obtained from Joyce Keable Tel No 01264 351405 at a cost of £6 per person which will include lunch and talk by Anne Harwood, this also may be an opportunity for people to return any Annual
Trophies which have to be returned by 31st March 2005.
Please find enclosed New Championship Entry Forms for 2005, these have the additional weight group and my new address on.
