Draw for the Final.

1 Satin Starlight

2 Top Gun Tyson

3 Tommy Gunn

4 Stargazer

5 Cool Runnings

6 Cairdean Patriot

The Event

Cairdean Patriot from his outside trap would see the ‘hare’ first and he took full advantage of this as he left the rest at the traps to run clear to the first bend, but ran wide. This allowed Stargazer and Satin Spirit to pass him on the inside. Top Gun Tyson was pushing for the inside just behind these three and Tommy Gunn and Cool Runnings both tried for the rail just behind them. As they passed me standing on the first bend there was only 5 yards between the first and the last.

Stargazer started to pull away and was leading by 2 yards, but Satin Spirit cut this back as they went round the second bend. With Cairdean Patriot still very wide Top Gun Tyson passed him on the inside and started to close on the two in front. Cool Runnings started to pull in front of Tommy Gunn as they got to the finishing straight.

On reaching the finishing straight Stargazer held the inside line not allowing any room for the others to pass. Satin Spirit (a Veteran that week) managed to hold off Top Gunn Tyson as they went for the line. Cairdean Patriot began to pull over to the inside and this held off Tommy Gunn who had managed to pass Cool Runnings as they started the straight.

The Result was 4, 1, 2, 6, 3, 5. The first race of Whippets on this track was finished with the honours going to Frances Bales STARGAZER. The dogs completed the 3rd and 4th bends with ease and were happy to run the starting straight again to complete more that a circuit of the 405m track. Returned to the owners much to the amazement of the Greyhound kennel staff who have to chase their charges sometimes.

Sounds like a great race, and a great finishing photo!

Will they hold another event next year?

(p.s. did you ever get the photo's sorted from the 2nd champs?)

:) The East Anglian WRC hoped to get invited back to Walthamstow Stadium for their Charity SKY sponsored night. We aim to offer more Whippet Racing over the 235m course. The 6 Whippets that ran this time did us, their owners and themselves Proud.

There were lots of Pictures taken on the night including 3 videos (one official). So look out for some more action shots. A full write-up has been sent to Whippet News for the Jan 04 issue.

Congrats on what looks to have been a bloody good night
