Hi all newby here my dog patch is a staff/lab how many walks a day do lab owners do please :)

Hi there , how old is your dog?

Walkies depends on the age and condition of the dog as much as anything else. Murphy isnt a lab but hes two and a half and we walk at least 3 times a day, a good walk of 1-3 hours in the morning then two shorter walks one mid afternoon and one in the evening mostly about 2km each.
Some dogs want more, some less, some are happy with walking, others prefer to play games or play with other dogs there is no perfect one size fits all its a question of what fits you and your dog.

Hello and welcome!

I have a lab who is 11 and it depends day to day what we do walk wise. Sometimes he has 2 x 1 hour walks or he could have just 1 x hour walk and a trip round the block. All depends on the day and how he’s feeling and what he wants to do. He’s very happy either way. As long as we’re back for dinner time!

He is 10 months old :) i take him on 2 long walks a day but it doesnt seem enough

He might benefit from more mental stimulation, rather than physical - training, puzzle games, scent games on walks, exploring different places. That can help a dog relax and chill more effectively than 'just walking', and is also better for growing joints. But then again, at 10 months boundless energy is pretty much the rule!

The guideline (you don't have to stick rigidly to it) is five minutes walking per month of age, twice a day. So around 50 minutes is more in line with recommendations - it's about joint formation and impact on juvenile skeletal structure.

Instead of more exercise, you could try engaging his brain with training, scentwork or similar. Dogs find that even more tiring than physical exercise, and it also means that you don't grow a super-fit athlete that you simply cannot tire, regardless of exercise.

We're still doing it, @JoanneF:D
