Vet visit

Dexter went to the vet today. No worms . No heart murmur. Perfect health. Weighs in at 2.6 lbs. Had his first set of shots. His first heart worm chewable. A wonderful care package.
The care package includes flea prevention, a 2 lb bag of dry food, and a heart worm chewable. Tons of pamphlets and printouts on a variety of subjects: spay and neuter and how each preceedure is done and why it should be done, how to identify the local ticks, inside outside poisonous plants, Emergency numbers including animal poison control. The list goes on. Nothing I didn't know but to have the information at hands reach is awesome. Good to pass on to others as well.
They said Dexter was doing well. They believe he will be on the smaller side, but time will tell. He wagged his tail so fast meeting all the vet and tech that I thought he was going to take off
He is quite tender where they gave the shot but not allergic reaction. He is eating and drinking and had a bowel movement ok, so not worried.
Going to start teaching " watch me" in a day or two which will be fun. His sit and release is pretty awesome right now. There was a distraction the other day, I said sit and he sat immediately. I was so excited.lol

My dog does better with shots in the thigh - it's worth considering if he is tiny, there might be a bit more padding there.

Yeah they gave it to him right below the left hip. I will keep the thigh in thought for next time. He is doing super well this morning.

That's probably the same place as I meant - I wrongly assumed it would be the neck which is the norm for most dogs.

Didn't know the neck is the common place. Our vet has always done it below the hip. I learned something new . Now I am going to ask around and see where people's dogs get there shots. Wonder if my vet just does it differently. I'm so curious. Good things I'm not cat ( curiosity killed the cat ..old saying)

I thought injections were almost always in the neck, as it's easier to get a flap of supposedly less sensitive (if you're not a sighthound) skin there. When Jasper was younger my vet used to inject him into his thigh, mainly, I think, because it was the furthest point from his teeth But he has more confidence now (the vet, that is) so has reverted to the neck.

My vets have always done injections at the neck.. thats nearly 40 years, 7 dogs , 9 different vets, in two countries.
