Jasper is raw fed, and I usually give him some pureed veg, bought from my meat supplier, with his meals. They've just rang me to tell me that they're out of stock of veg for the order due today. So I'm planning to buy a load of fruit & veg from the local shops, make my own, and freeze it in convenient batches.

I know there's various veg he shouldn't have, onions and avocados being ones that spring to mind, but what fruit & veg do you think would be particularly good to include? And what extras would you add, e.g. oils, herbs, etc.? (He's getting Golden Paste every day at the mo otherwise turmeric would be on my list.)

Broccoli , carrots , spinach ,peas butternut squash ....blueberries, bananas, grated apple and cheese along with a dollop of goats yoghurt before putting in ice cube trays ;)

Definitely add some sweet potato, Spike had a bad allergic reaction to some bones a couple of weeks ago, chicken wasn’t doing anything to help him so I gave him his normal food with some added sweet potato, it stopped the sickness straight away so I’ve kept adding it and his coat has gone really silky smooth and he hasn’t put on any weight

Be careful giving sweet potato every day as it contains vitamin A. ...

Harri likes avocado (the flesh is fine. There is even a commercial dog food based on it) sweet potato, peas, Brussel Sprouts and tolerates carrots. He also has mint, seaweed, lemon balm, fenugreek and neem every day as a herbal supplement.

I always wondered about that - I'd seen plenty of mentions of it being poisonous but never got round to tracking down some reliable info. Sometimes it takes a while!

Thanks for the suggestions - I shall try to find the time to whip up something wonderful and healthy. And probably eat something involving chips myself;)

Mmm, I love chips, especially the ones from our local fish and chip shop in town. Very naughty though:rolleyes:

Even more naughty for me as being a vegetarian, I have the choice of pineapple in batter or halloumi in batter. The latter being pretty much fat fried in fat served with chips fried in fat!!

Ahhh I should have mentioned he only gets a spoonful mixed in with his normal food but that was enough to stop the sickness and his skin and coat are doing much better x

I finished off the last of the ready-made veg this morning - or at least Jasper did - so I need to get around to making some. Could you tell me which of the veg suggested above you would lightly cook before pureeing? I don't want to kill my food processor.

I lightly steam my veg and add the fruit raw and then blitz it altogether

Thanks, @Kara 1 :) Looks like this might have to wait till after Xmas now as I've done something to my knee and didn't want to go up to the greengrocer's and go on 2nd dog walk (OH has been doing 1st walks). But then there should be a good selection of sprout leaves and parsnip peelings on Tuesday.
