Chippie went back to his owner-breeders on the weekend and I was supposed to come away from delivering him, with only my own dogs in the car....

But then....

I laid eyes on this little girl and just HAD to bring her back for a holiday at my house! Her name is Midnight.

She is still not sure about me so I am hesitant to let her run free in the yard just yet - hence the photo whilst she is penned. She's a very different temperament from Chip, much more reserved.

My OH said I was an idiot. Couldn't go back to normal - just had to keep the workload topped up with another dog....

Oh, very pretty - and your favourite colour, too, isn't she?

I'm sorry, but you need to stop deluding yourself - you are going to end up with a full-time iggie, it's about time that you just got on with it!!! (w00t)

 she is very striking

OOOH Lana!!! Is she for keeps? Very lovely. I have such a soft spot for IGs, I just know one day I will have one.

Just what you need, another dog.

Linda

Awwww she is lovely

Well i sure can't blame you for wanting to bring that gorgeous girl home with you

Do you think you'll be able to keep her good?

 Well done Aslan, welcome to the mad world of IG owners (or nearly owners). She is sure a pretty lady and as the breed standard in the UK says, aloof!

:huggles: Just the ticket :huggles:

Oh Aslan what have you done (w00t) I want a proper black Iggie. They are a horrible wishy washy colour here more sable than black and the coats are on the whole really thin.

Now you can one that pees 'in' the beds instead of up the doors, the cupboards.....

So far, touch wood, she has not soiled her bed.

Yes Bard, she is my favourite colour, and I like her type too. She reminds me of the other bitch my Mum and Dad brought up with them on their last holiday to my place - she was a fawn and her name was Boots. And yes Jan, she is very deep black and dense coat - just like my Cashie boy.

No Linda and Debs, she's not for keeps. Just to show for a little while. If she ever really fits in and loosens up in temperament a little bit and I really fall in love I might ask but they did say she wasn't for sale.

She is very frightened at present. She likes the whippets as long as she has bars between them and her. She will put her nose through and sniff them when they come close. But if they come up to her while I am nursing her she clings on for dear life.

I have to extract her from the back of the crate every time I want to get her out. She plasters herself against the back wall, won't walk forward and come to me, but once I've got her out she is ok to be nursed. Outside in the pen this afternoon she did stand up on the side for me to pick her up - so that was a bit of a win.

I didn't have to do all this cajoling and soft talking with Chip. He was a bouncy, happy boy, tail continually wagged and he loved me right from the start. And he would try to 'reel the whippets in' when they came near his crate. The little leg would come out and reach as far as he could to touch them and then try to bring them closer to him. And he would run around the yard with gay adandon and come when he was called.

If she doesn't relax in the next couple of weeks I will send her back sooner rather than later. As beautiful as she is, I wouldn't like her to be this worried all the time she is here. I put her out in the kennel this afternoon so she could have a run up and down in safety but all she did was stand there. It's not nice to see her so tentative in everything she does. She doesn't even bounce around in the little pen, she just does her business and then sits there.

Any tips for making her feel more safe and relaxed? I do cuddle and kiss her a lot and talk soothingly. She is eating all the food I give her, so she's not so stressed that she won't eat.

Edited to add - I just brought Aime inside to go to bed and Midnight walked to the front of her crate to say hello to Aime and wagged her tail at me when I spoke to her instead of retreating to the back of the crate. :p

She is beautiful  . I hope she soon starts to feel at home :luck:

Poor little girl :( You sound like you are doing everything right Lana. The only other things I can think of are Rescue Remedy. And as a last resort Clomicalm, however I think it would be better to send her home rather than resort to the Clomicalm.

Hope she settles soon :luck: :luck: :luck:

I must be so lucky - I've got one that pees 'in' the beds AND up the cupboards, etc etc....

She's lovely Aslan - hope she settles soon :huggles:
