Toilet command

Hi,

I am new to this forum which I see it's a great font of information for new dog owners.

Can I ask you what cue/command would you recommend using for your dog when you want them to go to the toilet?

I'd suggest two words for the separate acts of toileting. Because it's only a sound to a dog, you can use any words you like, only saying them at first while the dog is actually in the act of toileting until he has learned to make the association between the sound and the action. That's when you can start using the words to cue him to toilet.

thanks for your reply.
I have read the page on house training, I was just curious to see what people use instead of "go potty" or go wee wee".
I have come across some articles and seen some people use commands such as "empty" or "be quick", "be clean", "hurry up".
I have yet to decide which command to use with my next dog (I foster them) and was looking for something a bit original and not too embarrassing

My dogs have never done their toileting by the command. But I do ask 'do you want to go to garden?. Which is usually answered with race to the back door. But that can as well just mean that they do want to go out but not for their bodily needs.

Oh yes, this! When we were toilet training T, a friend was in the house and we asked how work was going. “oh, you know” she said. ”Busy busy.”

I use 'widdle' and 'poo'. Or I used to... I think Jasper understood them, but if I said 'poo' when he didn't want to go, he'd bark at me. And before I knew it, 'poo' was a cue for him to bark

Most dogs will pee most times so shouldn’t be too hard, first thing in morning and late night it’s right pee,

I say Do a wee that covers both poops and wees.
Its important that when you first teach your dog this , to say your command when your dog is in the act of weeing/pooping so they make the connection .

We say "wee wee" in a weird high pitch voice for some reason, for both which I'm sure goes down a treat with the neighbours twenty times a day

We use "Do wee wees" or just wee wees. It's the same for both.
If when we are out and about I walk past one that is having a wee or a poo I always say "good girl" Wee wee's. I hope this just reminds them what they are doing and that they are good for doing it!

Oh yes, at 10 years old, T still gets a ”good lad” for toilets. Outdoors. But they all are ...

We say 'good toilet' when she is in the act. Hence she will generally toilet on request before jumping into the car.
