hi all which ped clubs have got timing equipment installed at there clubs? & are they expensive to buy & install?

I know Gloucester, The Independent, South Cotswolds and the Northern have got them. Not sure about the others.

Very interested now, how does it work etc & is it something you buy off the shelf or have those clubs had it specially made?

I know some non ped straight clubs used to have this sort of timing & even a photo finish in the 60's but i don't know of any know.

Hi Vicky, ours is started when the trap releas button is pressed and stops when the first dog to cross the line breaks the beam so we can only time the winner.

it was bought before I took over but I know they ordered it from somone not sure if Nigel had somthing to do with it?

Sounds v technical so i wouldn't be surprised if nigel had something to do with it :D

Would you say it's pretty accurate compared to hand timing?

Is it a pain in the arse to set up?

Do you have a lead running back down to the traps?

Ahhhhh so if you had hand pull traps how would that work?

WOMEN!

Very accurate

No 2 mins (just 2 plugs)

Do you have a lead running back down to the traps?
Yep a plugs fits into a control box thats wired to the trap releas button then runs to the finish line where it plugs into a little box (technicle eh) then we have a reflector then when somthing breaks the bean it stops the clock (thats located on the box on the line)

Ooooooh smart arse :D

Anyone got a piccie?

Where & what is the clock part, do you reset it from the finish line or the traps?

Our's resets it's self after about 30 secs to zero or when the trap button is pressed it starts again from zero.

This is the Northerns timing unit the small hole on the front is the magic eye ( for want of a better word) the panel on top is the clock.

It uses a small microprocessor (PIC1684) with an LCD display. It starts by measuring the battery voltage at the traps & when it notices a drop (because the traps have been opened) the timer starts. The timing box (shown in the photo) is on the finish line. This sends out an infra red beam across the track to a reflector & back again. When the beam is broken the timer stops. The timer is rearmed at that point but the time will stay on the display until the traps are opened again - so as soon as they are opened the timer starts again from 0.00. That way you never have to manually reset the timer (so you can't forget ;) )

All sounds very clever!!

So we couldn't have one coz we've got manual traps?

thanks gang thats been very helpfull  , so i guess my next question(for future reference) is how much do they cost ? i think there a great tool & it helps to know your dogs & club dogs time over 150 , 175 , & 200 yrds .

Off hand Paul I can't remember but i'll have a look through the paperword and see if I can find the price?.
