Just been and had a look at their website. They describe it as;

"The Whippet Club is the only breed club in Britain to cater for all working Whippet disciplines."

But I couldn't find the coursing section although in the gerneral whippet description there is;

"He is happy in close association with his human family and will take a full part in the family fun. But he was bred to race, hunt and course, and so he must have his good run every day - and then, being rather sophisticated for a dog, he will be happy to curl up quietly in a corner of your best sofa."

Is it just me or are they trying to be PC :b ?

(apologies for typos Jo's making me type in the dark! )

Hi Scott

I know Dennis (the Northern new Chairman for those that don't know) sent a letter in to the Whippet Club asking why they never update the web page he got a nice reply explaining they would look into it.

Dennis uses K9 and might be able to tell you more about the reply he got.

If I have a pet hate it is out of date web sites. When I joined the Whippet Club I told Mr Mayger, Hon Sec, what I thought if their web site and the damage that I thought that it was doing to the image of the club. I received a very nice reply to the effect that the people who got the site up and running were no longer involved and that the future of the site would be discussed at the next meeting of the Whippet Club Committee. No further news!

I'm gonna get Joey on his case!

With all the knee jerk reaction to hunting with hounds (IMO) it's better to educate people with the facts rather than shy away and let the Antis spout rubbish! 8)

The unfortunate thing is Scott is that Jo public only hear what is spoken or read what is wrote and as the Countryside Alliance are a bunch of usless w####ers (im my opinion that is) the public only every hear or read what the well organised well funded antis have to say.

untill we have an organisation that truly want's to represents ALL feild sports equaly then were doooooooooomed.

did i hear scott say the dreaded word/ phrase P.C ! the whole country is P.C at the minute , its a load of crap! & yes mark your right the c/alliance needs to do a better job , you only hear there piont of view in the countrymans if you didnt have the c/w regulary you woulnt know there is a campain being fought

Hi Paul,

It's not the converted that read the Countrymans Weekly they should be targeting, it's the millions of Joe Public that are sitting on the fence and who unless some fat cat at the CA (in my opinion) gets up off their fat ar#es (in my opinion)and start letting the public know the true facts and not the biased crap the Anti lot keep handing out then hunting/field sports (including shooting/fishing/coursing ect) is looking at a bleak future. :(

The Whippet Club have now got 'ownership' of their site back, and are working on it. It's not perfect yet, but there is a lot more on there that there was! None of the people who can access it can spend a lot of time on it as all have 'day jobs' too! :b

Excuse me butting in here - but it seems to me that when the Coursing Supporter's organisation folded - we lost valuable personnel in our fight to maintain our legitimate sport.

A surf through Google reveals that there is a Coursing Supporters Club. c/o National Coursing Club 16 Clocktower

Mews Newmarket Suffolk CB8 8LL Tel 01638 667381 Fax 01638 669224

We do not have a strong voice amongst the Countryside Alliance for coursing and the only reason I am a member is because it is obligatory under East Anglian Whippet Coursing Club rules - but it very much goes against the grain.

The Coursing Supporter's Club was a brilliant organisation and they did far more for us than the Countryside Alliance has ever done. I think they ( CA) just consider us so much fodder !! and are quite happy for us to be offered as the 'sacrifical lamb'.

I shall get off my soap box now....... carry on talking amongst yourselves - sorry to interrupt !! Just wanted to get that off my chest.

well i dont care what this crap goverment do ,they cannot enforce these laws if everyone carrys on taking part in feild sports , labour are supposed to be for the working class but they just shaft the working bloke out of more & more ,the word WHITE will be taken out of the dictionary soon! lets face it if we are all honest its true! when uve finnished work& you want to go in the feilds coursing or racing or fishing why should blair & his wasters tell you you cant? just like in gibralta he has told 99% of the brittish people who voted to remain under brittish rule that they are spannish ? its time blair went, along with his do gooders!

Hi Kirowan,

I echo your sentiments 100%. we need a realy strong group working in support of coursing not the half baked cretins we have at present. (ok the soap box is yours again or Pauls :p )

Hi Paul, Again I have to agree the whole PC thing has gone bonkers I heard on the radio the other day that old Only Fools And Horses are to be edited as they are racist? BON JOUR!

And as for Blair and his cronies it's like Dell Boy would say? WHAT A BUNCH OF PLONKERS

The problem I have always had with the old BFSS and now the Countryside alliance is that in truth they are only interested in preserving foxhunting , beagling and possibly organised coursing. The average bloke or lady who just wants to go out with a whippet or lurcher or any old dog doesn`t seem to fit in .If numbers were counted then the average lurcherman or sporting dog owner , ferreter etc wouldbe far more numerous than the organised hunting fraternity.

We need to make our presence felt within the pro-fieldsports lobby , or else the only fieldsports to survive will be licensec foxhunting etc. What we need are a few spin doctors as gifted as the bullshitters employed by the Labour party and the antis to get our point across to joe public.

I used to be a member of the coursing supporters club , didn`t realise it was still going

Hi Nigel,

They have very little interest in Coursing Under rules as last year they were quite happy to let Hare coursing go if they were able to keep Fox Hunting under liscence.

The problem is that 99.9% of the Hunting , Fishing community are law abiding people who would never entertain direct action or breaking the law so our feeling & views are ignored as were not a threat unlike the sick deprived antis who think nothing of nail bombing or attacking inocent members of a hunt.

(whooops soap box is out again!)

I think you`re right about coursing being sacrificed if it meant that foxhunting would be allowed to continue albeit in a licensed manner . What worries me is that the most numerous group , ie. the average bloke who goes out for a few rabbits or the odd course now and again hasn`t got anyone representing him if the truth be known.

direct action is probably alien to most people, but the only thing that Blair and co understand is pressure against them - if they thought public opinion was in the favour of hunting , they`d drop the antis like a hot brick . Blair and co will do anything to remain in power , we have to convince the general public ,( most of them don`t take much ) that there is nothing cruel about coursing and hunting. That`s the difficult bit - getting the mesaage across

I think you may find the driving factor with Blair is the large donnations to the Labour party from the Anti groups.

but the time has come for a group to represent the man in the street? but will anyone ever set it up. ;)

Like you say , the money the labour party get from the antis is substantial . With a bit of luck though, I think they might have enough on their plates to think about coursing .

Election time approaches next year ........
