Pastoral: A Pastoral dog is used for herding, mustering, guarding or otherwise managing livestock. Mainly associated with working cattle, sheep and reindeer. They often have a weatherproof double coat to protect them from the elements when working in severe conditions. Although many farmers still use the Pastoral dog for working they are also widely used as domestic pets. Domesticated Pastorals will still show their natural genetic predisposition but usually by rounding up the family!
Examples include: Boarder Collie, Lancashire Heeler, Australian Cattle dog, German Shepherd, Samoyed, Welsh Corgi and Old English Sheepdog.
