My friends' gorgeous hound, Ted, who came over with his 'parents' for drinkies in the garden this afternoon. Anyone fancy playing 'guess the mix'?

He's a bit gorgeous, isn't he? He's so reserved though - I've known him a couple of years now and still he barely acknowledges me!

Strictly speaking, he's not actually a lurcher....

No doodles, and no wolfhounds... or deerhounds for that matter.

He is utterly gorgeous though.

He is, according to the DNA test they had done, pure saluki x greyhound going back a few generations - so his parents were both saluki x grey, and so were his grandparents (who were all shown as F1 crosses). Now, I doubt they can really be that accurate, and it would suggest deliberate breeding - he was found as a stray and had been shaved.

As I understand it, when you cross F1s you can get odd results, which could expain the coat, but I still think his nose looks a little short, and he's quite chunky as lurchers/longdogs go. I think so, anyway, he wouldn't appreciate me having a good feel He's very saluki personalitywise.

Saluki does show up, I just love all sighthounds with any mix , Salukis does seem very aloof , can be pains but loving all the same, and I’ve only ever had a x lol

The DNA tests are just for fun (if you call wasting money fun) and one newspaper reporter discovered s/he was mostly spaniel!

I can see saluki, and her attitude sounds very saluki. But that coat! Looks more Old English sheepdog, Beardie, even longhaired GSD type. But I have seen known crosses of normal lurcher mixes throw coats not dissimilar. I agree about the short nose.

The saluki is definitely there, in his personality and in his ear hair. His owners previously had a Staffie and a springer, it took them a while to adapt to such a different dog ('Should he be sleeping this much?' 'Why can't I teach him to sit?')

Once you’ve a saluki or saluki x you can be sure of one thing! Your patience has been tested, I honestly thought mine was deaf hehe,
