Have you seen that after office hours that stray dogs are not going to be picked up of the streets any more?

The police will now only pick up if the dog is a danger to people.

They reckon on the news that it will be up to the public to pick up strays and take them to the dogs home, and there will be an increase in poor strays loitering about in danger to themselves

all down to funding - surprise surprise

I was in the park last Monday and there was a Golden retriever running around all over the place, totallly lost :( I phoned the dog warden from my mobile phone and they were closed it was 4.15, the council said phone the police. I went to Tesco and got the local Police number called them and I was put through to a central call centre. I explained the dog was lost and was running around bewildered all over the park and said there was a high chance it would run out one of the exits and get on the road, (it had a collar but no tag) she told me to phone the dog warden and I said I have they are closed , they said phone the Police. She then said " Oh we usually ask the public to bring the dog to us in that case" I said I have a dog in the car already my dog, surely that is the Police's job to do that. She said " I'll try and get someone to get it then" After leaving Tesco and passing the park around 20 mins later there was the poor dog, this time he was on the road cars screetching and swerving to avoid him. I pulled over and opened the back door and he jumped in quite the thing, ( he was stinking and soaking wet as he had been in the burn) My megan was in the car as well on the front seat just as well they were both friendly! Anyway I then turned around and took the poor soul to the Police station and it had a sign on the door saying closed!!! There was a phone at the side of the door so I picked it up and it put me through to the central call centre again and I explained that I had already called about the dog and the Police hadn't bothered to get it, so I did as it was running about the road and I had brought to the station and it was closed! I explained there were three Police cars around the back, so she put me on hold for 5 minutes and eventually came back to say someone will come down in a minute, another 5 minutes a Policeman eventually appeared and took the dog from me. I told him it was ridiculous that the Police hadn't bothered to get the dog themselves

last year i found a gorgeous 10 month old(ish) lab bitch running up a main road in Birmingham.....she was following a man who was jogging and at first I thought she must be his (til he started trying to shoo her - into the road! )

I turned my car round and got ahead of them, then asked him to help me get her into my car (which he did)

I drove to the RSPCA just up the road and asked if they could help - she was definitely someone's well loved pet - my guess is she'd just escaped....and the RSPCA said

na'aaaah, can't elp

my vets confirmed she had no chip so i took her to the local police (who have kennels) and they at least were super helpful.

But, I have a car (one that had just been valeted  ) How on earth would someone be able to do that by public transport?

That's ridiculous the RSPCA not wanting to help either! So much for animals in need
