How do you all store/file your photos? I'm never sure whether it's best to do it by occasion/date/subject etc. I desparately need to back up my photos but want to get them into some sort of sensible order first. I do have some folders which are easy, like 'holidays', 'family', 'friends' etc but I'm never sure what to do with the masses of whippet pics! Any tips from anyone would be most welcome?

mine are all jumbled up :b

need to sort them out :b

Yep im the same Gillian i have whippet pictures everywhere but

recently spent a bit of time getting them into some sort of order

I have..........

Sada pup, Sada 1, Sada 2, Sada 3.

Kaya Litter, Kaya pup, Kaya 1, Kaya 2.

Alba Stolen, Alba 1.

then there's....

Girls 1, Girls 2.

Whips and me.

The A Team together.

What a collection

Doesn't matter how you file them - just get them backed up quick! My harddrive disintergrated a few months ago and if mine hadn't have been backed up i would have lost everything

When I first backed up all my pics I had

Good Penny pics (all my favs that were good quality)

Penny

Penny beach

Penny garden

Penny at the dam

Out and about

Penny with people

guineapigs

ferrets

My back up all consist of animal pictures! :- "

Now I just copy 'my pictures' to backup. As long as you back them up, you wouldn't want to loose any.

I back up my photos regularly on the pc ...and onto CD's....they are all over the place in named files on both my laptop and the main pc too :D

Most of mine are stored in photobucket too...

I have mine by year, then by topic in each year, but it's whatever you find easiest

I learnt the hard way when the old laptop went pop and we couldn't retrieve them

I do it by year as I then create a disc for each year and keep topping up the back up every month or so :- "

That is more or less what I do. I have year files for the dogs, my grandson, and holidays, and then special occasions, like my children's weddings. I also have other files such as Views, Wildlife and Misc, for interesting photos that don't fit anywhere else.

It is so important to back up - I copy my photos onto CDs. My OH's computer crashed a couple of years ago, and if I hadn't backed up his photos he would have lost them all. :- "

I am going to make a start on backing up tomorrow!!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I like the idea of doing it by years, although I take so many photos that I will probably need to do it in quarter years! :- "

I forgot to add that I do get some favourite photos printed out to put in an album as I still prefer to look through albums rather than looking on the computer.
