Last night proved to be very productive - so we at Doglost thought!

A call was received from a person who told us he was at a petrol station in Reading when he saw a Red Transit van pull onto the forecourt. It was followed in by a Dark Blue Vauxhall Vectra. Out of the back came two what the man described as "greyhounds". The two men were in conversation, the man from the Vectra took one dog and the other dog went back into the transit. The person was rather suspicious and took both registration numbers of the vehicles.

It was only when the person went into the newsagents and saw the pictures of these dogs on the front page of the local paper he realised something just wasnt right. He contacted doglost and passed on the info, in turn it was passed onto the owners. They went to the police with this and left a message for the officer in charge of the case. The owners later received a call back from the police they told them they couldnt do anything until that officer was back which wouldnt be until Sunday

This cannot continue, the police are now saying they dont have the manpower to do anything. The transit has been traced to the Birfield Gypsy Site and they still are refusing. Maybe with a little help from all of you doglovers in K9 Community land. I have already made my call to Newbury Police on 01635 264604 to express my concerns. How about you following my lead.

Im sure the owners would appreciate all the help you can give

Unfortunately it is quite true, the Police will NOT go onto the permanent site at Burghfield. When the Whippet escaped from car at Reading Services a couple of years ago, the breeder and I wanted to visit the camp to offer a reward if the dog was found and captured, the Police would not even escort us and would certainly not go there on our behalf. We were also strongly advised not to go there ourselves and, if we did, not to leave our car under any circumstances. We did go there, straight from the Police station at Theale, but as we were warned it was a very frightening and wasted journey. We got no further than just inside the gate and certainly no co-operation, they were not in the least interested even in the offer of money. This was when there was no hint of the dog having been abducted, just plain lost.

I would not recommend ANYONE to try going there.

Police have give in - at last :D No more calls please

One vehicle is registered in High Wycombe. The other is registered local.

Police are now going to act.

Anon tip off that one dog is now on the Burghfield Travellers Site. Owners are aware

What rubbish I was in a local town center yesterday and a differant 1 today (Bury & Rochdale) and each time there were 8 (yes Eight) police officers escorting the Truent officers round the town center pulling parents who had school age children with them.

I asked 1 of the police men concerned "wasn't it a total waste of police manpower all them officers just stood about doing nothing when there is so much crime?"

he just smiled at me?

What they mean is they can't be bothered.

same thing with speed traps etc, just targeting the poor motorist cos we have to pay fines, waste of time chasing criminals cos theres no money in that is there?

A sighting of the saluki at Headley near Alton-please keep a look out!
