Whilst out walking edie today she became irritated stopped to lick her paws and tummy then limped for a few minutes. I then realised she had run through stinging nettles, i there anything i can ease the irritation if it happens again

I'd be surprised it the nettles had stung her paws. Tummy, yes possibly if she has much exposed skin but most of it should be protected by her coat. Traditional cure is a rub with a dock leaf but actually plantain is better ( and is really common).

It wasn't something prickly like brambles amongst the nettles was it? Harri charges through nettles with abandon but won't step on brambles and waits to be carried if he can't find a way through. Wimp that he is!

Thank you ive just looked up what plantain is and i recognise it at least i will know how to help next time. She was clipped yesterday so her coat is short i only short nettles her reaction was instant

There are plenty of new young nettles showing at the moment, they always seem to be extra potent when they first arrive in the spring! I have not seen any docks around yet though.

Edie isn't lucky with stinging things after all the crops had been cut last year we were on a morning walk she disturbed a wasps nest she began rolling and scratching her coat was long so I picked them out came home immediately when I removed her harness she still had many underneath. Fortunately she was okay when they were all gone
