We had the trials today for the big sittingbourne race nights on the 14th and 21st of December. What a fantastic day, we had solos intially and then pair races. Big well done to greyhound track novices Jeff and Pats Double Diamond and Mike and Ilids Means Business. They were both a bit phased in their solos but put their racing heads on when they raced against another dog, improving their times by at least 3 seconds.

The race manager was very impressed with the times. A greyhound open class dog who is at least 35 Kilos will do 16:50 for 265 metres, our quickest time of the day for a 12.7 kilo dog was 18:89, just over two seconds slower than a greyhound who is nearly 3 times bigger than our dogs. How great are our dogs?

Got to say well done to Roger Nind for arranging this and try to advertise pedigree whippet racing.

Hope you get a great turnout on the day Dave and have not seen Roger for ages talked to him on the phone a couple of weeks ago hope he is well on the mend.

Good luck mate.

Thanks Derek  , it was really good to meet up with Roger again. He has worked really hard on getting this event sorted, i do hope we get some support from the local racers.

Mind you even if we don't, i'm sure were have a bloody good time  .

Sounds like it's gonna be a good night. Good luck to all dogs entered. I could probably make it after work as there is a London Bridge train direct to Sittingbourne! :sweating:

Nice to hear. Some questions:-

Can you find out if the Whippets would have been graded in with their times?

They will improve, each time they run, if fact they may do their best times when racing. Will this be enough to grade them.

At the recent 240m bend Champs fastest time was 15.89, approx 1 sec faster, adding the time per metre should be about 255m in the time the Open Greyhounds are doing the 265. So you could argue that the Whippet would be only 10m slower.

If you reduced the distance to 220m (240yds) the two runners would be much more evenly matched.

And if you took the distance down to 138m (150yds) i think the odds are on the Whippet!!

It would be interesting to know also if the Open Class 265m dogs were mostly small bitches

Something to think about!

Bloody hell, someones thought a lot about this. Do the maths take into account the fact that it's on sand. Oh it's far too serious for me, it's supposed to be a bit of fun :sweating: i'm sure Roger could answer this if he is so inclined.

I would have to say that its a nice thought but its romantic Bias number crunching!

It's only 4 days to the first of the Sittingbourne Whippet races can't wait (w00t) . All dogs have been trialled and given trap draws. We are Race number 3 at 8:00pm so come and support us please :thumbsup: . Address is;

Sittingbourne Greyhound Stadium

Central Park Stadium
Church Road
Eurolink
Sittingbourne
ME10 3SB

We are looking for a dog for the race on the 21st. Unfortunately one of the dogs can't race on that day due to the owners getting a lovely new pup.

It would mean trialling this Friday night at 6:45pm and obviously must be a peddie with a racing passport. Any offers please contact Roger.

Wish us luck.

It's a shame we couldn't get more interest in this, and what's even sadder is that the Afghans are racing and got more support than we did  .

thats great news dave, well done markamys black bentley...

Sounds like a lot of fun. Well done Dave

Thanks everyone, we had a great time, my head was sore in the morning  . Sittingbourne were very welcoming and made us feel part of the night. All the dogs ran brilliantly, the going was very heavy due to the heavy ran but it didn't bother them at all. We can't wait to see the DVD and photos.

In my opinion everyone on the night was a winner and more importantly we proved that Pedigree Whippet Racing is competitive and exciting, it was great to hear people encouraging the dogs home. Got to also thank Lesley Meaker for driving all that way in the wet weather and supporting us (I think she may tempted next time), hopefully we may get more next week. Finally another really well done to Roger for sorting this out

Result,

1st Markamys Bentley 19:35,

2nd Burlington Bertie

3rd Sandman,

4th Double Diamond,

5th Markamys Marley,

6th Means Business

Hi all, just to remind you all that the second Sittingbourne race is happening today, weathers looking much better than last week. Let's hope we all come of safe and sound and i can finally rest up the Markamy boys after their very long hard season  .

Oh and a very happy Christmas to you all, and thank to all those who have helped us throughout the year  .

In regard to your times and distances on a greyhound track running yards is 0.06 and in metres it is 0.08 so a whippet doing 18.89 and a greyhound doing 16-50 equals 239 spots of a difference so the greyhound would win by 29 & 3/4 metres over course and distance
