Just to let folks know that we had a good day at Shustoke Show.
We ended up running 2 demonstration sessions. In each session we had about 6 main races followed by about six solo trials. Each session lasted for about 45 mins and we attracted crowds of about 40 to 50 people who stayed for most of each session.
During the session we had commentry from myself about what was happening and we used this time to explain more about how we train our dogs and what whippet racing is generally about. Even the trialling proved to be popular, when I was able to explain what we were trying to achieve and how the young dogs and handlers were shown what to do.
The main races were handicapped to try and bring the dogs over the line together and we had volunteers from the crowd trying to act as line judges. Several people who thought this would be easy discovered otherwise quite quickly.
Overall we think we made a good pitch for our sport and used the opportunity to promote this web site at the same time.
Many many thanks to the few but willing band that worked so hard to make the event a success on the day.
Lisa and Steve for trapping other people's dogs (mostly mine)
Bill, Ole and Billy from helping collect on the line.
Henry for doing the lure.
Margaret, Pete, Anne and Emma for supplying dogs and fitting in with also sorts of jobs.
A special thanks to the boys and girls that ran up and down the track time and again, taking down collars and leads and returning with dogs and the lure - and then helping with trials and manning the tombola stall. They must have been exhausted in the evening. So thanks to Max, Oliver, Billy and Billy's sister and friend.
