The lurcher shows are advertised in the Countrymans weekly which comes out every friday. You may have to order a copy as not many retailers stock it on the shelves.
The next big gathering of whippets is I think Crufts followed by the Whippet club champ show on 7th April at Ryton on dunsmore near Coventry. There are always general open shows where whippets are shown but not in any great numbers and these are advertised in the dog papers weekly.

You have forgotten the South Yorkshire Open show on the 25th. Then again maybe it wont be a 'big' gathering of whippets only a middlin' gathering and it isnt near Reading. I expect somewhere in the region of 80+ but am only guessing. Many societies have show details on the champdogs site and/or pedigreedogs site.
