Sorry - I'm sure this has been covered before (although I can't find the relevant threads!) but does anyone know where could I get a show lead for Fergal? And are there different sorts? And if so - which is best? THANK YOU! :D

Can't believe that after being on this list with the mad lead and collar buying folks who are on hear that you've asked if there are different sorts of show leads. ;)

What you are looking for is one that matches the colour of your dog and also thin. The idea being that it's as inobtrusive as possible.

Hide and collars

Have a look at their show sets. Not suggesting that you buy from them but the page will show you what some types look like.

I got mine from the JR Whippet rescue stand. So go along to South West Whippet open (ask Joe when it is) and have a look at them there. Also get Catriona to show you what she uses when you're at ringcraft.

You're right! (w00t) I think what I was asking was "what ARE the different sorts, and what sort should I get!!??" :D

The ones on that website are lovely but look a bit pricey! (Me being a skinflint again! :b Although to be fair - Fergal will probably EAT it within a few days! ).

I'd like to get one soon to practice with it - so somewhere to buy online would be good! (and cheap - as leather is an expensive form of dog food! ;) )

Thank you BeeJay!

Lyn Chapman runs the JR whippet rescue stall and is at lots of the Whippet shows all year round, but she could send you the price list if you phone her on 01437 731659 (and of course the profits go to a very good cause!!!).

She will be able to advise you over the phone if you want. Show leads from her start from £10.50 I think.

Good luck with your showing :luck: :luck: :luck:

I bought a leather show lead from Whippet rescue to show the IGs in and they really go well in it. Lovely quality too.

Ive got 3 leather leads , but show Mikkee on a thin corded one ( not leather ) that cost £4.20. and its been lucky so far :luck: :p Most dog related stalls have them at shows . Mikkee`s is beige , for Fergal you could either use black or dark brown

One of those big stands at the Champ shows that sell loads of different colours corded show leads has a web site and I still can't think of the name of it. One of the advantages of the corded show leads is that they come in a very wide range of colours and they are very light and fold up nicely in the hand.

It's really annoying me that I can't think of their name. They do a fat catalogue sell toys, all sorts of leads and collar, dog treats as well as grooming stuff. They would defo sell you one mail order.

Okay I screwed up my eyes real tight and ..................

Luxway

Check out the colour match and soft braid range under collars and leads. I've got a half check collar and lead combo in probably gold or ginger for my red fawn.

Thank you again Beejay - they look great - I have ordered a catalogue and will get one of the corded ones for about £5 - not expensive and hopefully Fergal is LESS likely to eat it if it's not leather! And thank you Jax for suggesting a colour - black sounds good! We complete beginners do need that sort of guidance! :)

I was so pleased with Fergal at the last companion show we went to that I thought I should get my act together and enter him in an open show. :) He will probably be AWFUL if I do though! But heh!!

You lucky lucky people...I'm absolutely green with envy. :x :x

Just been to visit the websites mentioned above and can't believe the variety of beautiful collars and leads ...ooooh and the tassels...that you have available in the U.K.

I've only been showing for just under 12 months but haven't seen anything like them.

hmmm....my aunt's coming out from the UK next month...maybe I should send her shopping before she comes!!!! o:) o:)

Hey and if there's anyone in the land of OZ making stuff like "Hide and Collar"...LET ME KNOW!!!

Linda (Kirislin on this board) is in Australia and makes wonderful kangaroo hide collars and plaited show leads and her prices are very reasonable. I bet she'd be able to help you out.

Wendy

Thanks Wendy, you're a honey!!

Roshwen, where are you? I'm in Victoria & I'll be at the Congress, if you're not going there then feel free to email or PM me & I can give you some details of what I make.

Linda

Linda,

I'm in Victoria too and will definitely see you at the congress...can't wait to see all your stuff...I've obviously still got lots to discover. (Guess I better count on this congress costing me a few more dollars!!!)

Look forward to meeting you.

Louise.

You should have come to Frampton!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a cheapy corded one for £2.50! (w00t)

I have to say, it did seem to discourage Archie from sniffing the ground as it garotted him

I am very surprised the judge didn't hear him choking (especially as Hannah and I could from the edge of the ring  ). Luckily he must have been hard of hearing :))

When's the next show????????????

I wish I could have come to Frampton :( ... but I was busy painting watercolours (which was also enjoyable!). :)

Am jealous of your show lead. I still haven't ordered one for Fergal - and I haven't been able to make it to ringcraft for the last two weeks. Oh dear!

Anyway - you will be pleased to know that the next show is this Saturday! I think they have these every month, but I haven't been to one yet (someone else might know more ....?)

Saturday 18th September

In aid of the YMCA, at the YMCA, Sebert Street, Gloucester

Entries from 12.30am (£1 per class), Judging from 1.30pm

And Archie will be very pleased to know that there won't be as much competition as Fergal can't make this one either :( :( ... because we're on holiday in Cornwall :D :D :D YIPPEEEEE!!!

GOOD LUCK! :luck: And we want PICCIES!! :teehee:
