Hi i have Charlie 10 months old and just lately he always wants to ride everything his toys, pillows and when we go for his daily walk he constantly tries to ride other dogs/bitches.he occasionally gets over excited with the grandchildren as well. I have tried correcting him he is as good as gold otherwise and i dont want to breed him.

He has become very sure of himself lately tries to rule the house which we dont allow and he accepts that i am in charge and not him in the house.

He is a pleasure except for this pestering other dogs not all like it if you understand my meaning and i dont want another dog to turn on him or him or the other dog get hurt .

He is well behaved otherwise do you think this would help i am a bit worried because my last dog was very ill after neutering and we nearly lost him due to adverse reaction to anaesthetic.

In your circumstances I would recommend having Charlie neutered sooner rather than later as the benefits will reduce over time. You should speak to your vet too as they will give the best advice.

Here are some of the main benefits of having your dog neutered:

  • Neutered male dogs are less likely to roam, which means they’re less likely to go missing, get hit by a car, get in a fight and get hurt.
  • Unneutered dogs can become frustrated and may try to escape.
  • Castration significantly reduces the chance of them getting prostate disease and reduces the risk of some cancers.
  • An unneutered dog is more likely to show aggression to other dogs, whether they’re on or off the lead.
  • An unneutered dog is more likely to be the target of aggression from another dog.

I place all my pups on a do not neuter till a year of age contract, allows them to develop fully. If you are having problems with marking his territory or you let him run loose, I would wait a few more months. But have that appointment booked!
