Well, the age old newbie question.

Should I get a lurcher.

I currently own 2 ferrets, a jack russel and a rottwieler/german shepard cross.

But after spending a few nights lamping with a local gypsie, I really think the lurcher is possibly the best rabbit control i have ever come across. I have never had, nore seen a more affective means of rabbit controll than 2 lurchers and a lamp.

I'm hooked. And thinking beddlington whippet X or pure whippet.

Any thoughts or advice well sort.

Hi, welcome  , well more informed peeps on here than me  so hopefully you'll get some useful advice, just wanted to welcome you.

Thats what I'm hoping to pick up here, a bit of advice.

The dog I hope to get will mainly be working alongside ferrets, but also with a lamp, and a bit of bushing. But will only be going for rabbit.

So I need a fairly rugged all rounderI think, and the bedlington whippet seems to fit the bill.

Can a whippet cope with this sort of work well? As I like the look of them, and the size is about right for me. Or is there something I'm over looking :b

Idealy i would like to rehome a dog, so in that circumstance, I can't be too picky.

But do lurcher rehoming groups thrown apon working the dogs?

Why don't you copy your post over into "General Discussion - Whippets" as well? There are a lot of people on the board who work their whippets regularly and might have advice, but they might miss this thread here

Hi there,

I have whippet x beddie with a bit of grey etc and she is gorgeous!

I don't work her but she's certainly interested in rabbits!

Try putting a request for this sort of lurcher on Homes offered on www.lurcher.org as they don't mind people working their dogs (unlike Dogpages & some rescues) with some info about yourself. Have a look on the Homes Needed too as I'm sure there will be someone that appeals to you! :)

Hi & welcome i have worked lurchers/whippets for many years with varied succsess lamping being my main choice of work i find a good whippet more than equal to the job :luck: with your search hope you find what you are looking for
