Hi there.

German online tourist in an english speaking dog world. Searching for some sighthound inputs, insights and thoughts that are rare to find in the german speaking part of the world.

Owning a Galgo Espanol, a GalgoxWhippet and a race bred Whippet.

Welcome - there's plenty of sighthound fans and owners here, so you're in good company!

Thank you.

Oh.. I allready found some good reads before registration but like to go more into details.

Especially racing Whippets is not such a common topic up here.

(And please excuse the way I sometimes put my english sentences. Readig another language is much easier than using it actively after a long, long time)

Welcome another sight hound lover here ...mainly lurchers ...i think there are a few racing whippet people on here ..
I would love a galgos ...

I would love a galgos ...

What stops you from keeping one?

Mine are rescues and great dogs. The last one who is believed to be a crossbreed is the only timid I ever got and turned out to be fear agressive towards people and dogs but even he is a nice, easy going cuddly boy in private. And loves non competitive coursing and racing. (It's the one pictured in the avatar)

Welcome. I love sighthounds too. I have kept lurchers for many years and if I were younger, would have a galgo.

Makes me giggle. When I was new to the rescue galgo and ex-racing grey as pet hounds world my first thought was "OMG. I am far too young for this kind of dog. There is only elderly people keeping them".Turned out: the reality is somewhere in the middle.

Hi and welcome to you and your hounds!:)

I would love a galgos but have 5 dogs 3 older lurchers so maybe one day ....but the plan is we will have 2 dogs and a foster dog in the future

Well, okay, you have a point there.

From my understanding there are only few organisations in the UK to get a galgo from. (Whereas here it is way easier to get an spanish hound than an ex racer or even hungarian sighthound. People startet giving homes to greyhounds only a few years ago. Galgos have been much more of a subject). And there is not much pedigree breeding going on.

If i got one i would adopt from Galgos del sol ;)

They seem like a good choice. I just know them from some videos. Nice turn out pen and dogs in good shape.
Founder is from the UK, is'nt she?

Come on holiday to Yorkshire and bring your dogs with you. In normal times there's whippet racing every week here. Also we have lurcher/sighthound and terrier racing every month at a old dog track. All are welcome,it's fun only for both dogs and owners.

Oh, how I would like to do that one day. We do not have such thing as lurcher events or straight racing etc. I'd really like to see how this is organised. Straight racing would be something that even the galgo with bad health could do every now an then. (The other one, given the fact, that he is a rescue with unknown upbringing and of uncertain age is, after lots of x-rays, allowed to run some trials on his own. Just for the fun of it. Keeps him mentally stable and enforced his self esteem a lot)

Have a look on YouTube.... Bull x lure machine. This is how we keep the dogs fit and sharp, both lurchers and terriers. This brand isn't cheap but there are videos posted on how to make your own lure machine, the dogs love it. When I get another lurcher,I'll be dusting my machine off. You can do coursing with them or straight runs, you get the best of both worlds.

Oh, I know Danny. Wanted to buy a Bull x for myself. But right now I lack enough open field to use it.

No, I meant the more structural part. Is it ped or non ped? Who runs a club and how?...
