This is a good idea and after he is doing this with no problem, try him with the real thing, some of them take a while to get used to the feel of the rabbit in their mouth it is so much different from a dummy, even a covered one.We found that a fresh dead rabbit used as a dummy worked really well and all ours now retrieve well without mouthing the kill.Pennymeadow Whippets said:Try adding some weight & rabbit skin to the dummy that is retreived practice little & often :luck:
We have always trained ours with a squeeky toy (usually a favourite one) in a rabbit skin, not the most pleasant job sewing up rabbit skins but the dogs do eventually get used to the fur in their mouths.05whippet said:This is a good idea and after he is doing this with no problem, try him with the real thing, some of them take a while to get used to the feel of the rabbit in their mouth it is so much different from a dummy, even a covered one.We found that a fresh dead rabbit used as a dummy worked really well and all ours now retrieve well without mouthing the kill.Pennymeadow Whippets said:Try adding some weight & rabbit skin to the dummy that is retreived practice little & often :luck:
