Hi, I’m new here, I have fallen in love with a rescue dog and looking for advice on breed. She is a mix maloise. Do you have any idea? Is there someone that can help? Who could I ask to? Many thanks. Looking forward to find out.

Mix Malinois perhaps?

They are highly driven, working dogs which are not forgiving. They are not recommended for novice owners - make a training mistake with a Golden Retriever and you will be fine, make a mistake with a Malinois and prepare for having to do a lot of work to resolve it. And that could be as simple as bad timing.

They need a job, if you can't provide that then they may go self employed and redesign your furniture.

Are you experienced in dog ownership? What would a typical day be like?

Mix Malinois with what? My husband had dogs all his life. We have had all the matching bits, I’m just so in love and We will go training, but that’s why I want to find out more about the mix, but I can only see shepherd ? Belgian Malinois? The more I know the better, I can then research properly on breed traits. Many thanks

Have you met her in person, and have you been able to get an idea of her temperament from that?

If she is in rescue, they should know at least what the mother was - hopefully.

I can only see Malinois in her.

Meeting up on Sunday. We have been looking for months now, we are always too late, the latest reserved died and I have been heart broken! I’m going to be traveling to Italy in the summers to come and I need to make sure she hasn’t got any pit in her because I know staffie is ok, but not pit. How am I going to be able to be sure? DNA? Is there a department somewhere that can identify her and help before I will travel? She will have a passport obviously. I have heard horrible stories, I won’t adopt her if there is any chance of putting her at risk in our travelling. Many thanks for your help

I did wonder if there might be a smidge of bull breed in there, though then I looked at images of Malinois and changed my mind. In your position, though, I'd get a DNA test done if possible. Assuming there isn't any pittie in there, you could also use the test as evidence if someone does question her make-up.

Good luck with the meeting!
