Raw Bones

Hi, Oscar has been enjoying his raw meals for a number of weeks now. If feeding him Cotswolds complete puppy food with a couple of chicken necks a day.

When he first started on the chicken necks he did chew a bit before swallowing. Now he seems to swallow hole.

I would prefer him to chew the meaty bones a bit for his teeth health. Any recommendations on what meaty bones to more onto next. Would still like something quite soft as he is 14 weeks and only has his puppy teeth.

I'm a total wuss so I hold the chicken wings I give to my dog so that he can't rush them ... I just wash my hands thoroughly after, as I would if I'd been handling chicken for us. Would that help you?

Chicken necks are very small so I am not surprised he is swallowing them whole,what about Duck necks ,pork ribs ,lamb ribs or chicken backs

Thanks for your suggestions, as he is still young and do not want something too hard I might try the duck necks or chicken backs next and maybe then move on to the pork or lamb ribs.

Both the pork ribs and lamb ribs are quiet soft and edible. If hard bones are given they will still give plenty of pleasure and activity for jaw and teeth.
My puppies 2 years ago were started on bones at 5 weeks of age, they soon learnt that bones that were too hard to eat, remained for recreational purposes.

Thanks for your advice. I do also give him the occasional small marrowbone for pleasure.
