Raised feeding bowl?

I was wondering peoples thoughts on using a raised up bowl or having one on the ground? Misty has always had her bowls on the floor but I bought her a raised one thinking it must be easier and better for her........she doesn’t like it! Then again she doesn’t like change Is there right or wrong?

we tried on with olive but she hated it because shes only small anyway... non slip food bowls have worked for us.

Misty has no problem with her bowls as they are, I’m just a worrying Mum thinking how can that be good to eat like that!

I’ve thought about this before with Dennis as it doesn’t look the most relaxed eating it with his head low but I’ve heard it’s meant to slow down the eating!! ........ I can’t even imagine him eating any faster than he already does!

I read that raised bowls were meant to be better for dogs... then some more research suggested that they weren't so good for them after all. I suspect the jury's out, so we might just as well do what our dogs seem to prefer. Wild carnivores, of course, don't use raised feeders

I've never bothered with anything fancy. Harri hoovers up his meals with great efficiency from a normal flat bottomed china bowl - the stainless steel one was hopeless. It just skittered all over the kitchen

I always thought and indeed have been told that in dogs susceptible to bloat, large / giant breeds, dogs with deep chests etc. using a raised feeder reduces the risk. But checking on line, (ok dr Google aint always right), the only study that looked at feeding and bloat found the opposite using a raised bowl actually increased the risk.

Yes I have @JoanneF - in fact I visted a lovely Dachshund today who uses one!

Both my dogs use raised bowls. I like them, Oliver eats his food pretty fast and use to choke with his other bowl, dont have issues now.

I’d not really thought about a raised bowl making it easier to eat fast and gulp it down. Think I’ll stick to putting her bowl on the floor, she’s happy any how.

We use a non-slip slow feeder bowl, which isn't raised. It';s not as complex as the one @JoanneF linked to, it has a few raised sections, but slows down his eating quite well, otherwise we found he just inhales his food

Well I managed to try Dennis out on a slow feeder! Our friends dog Bea (who you've probably seen on here) has one so I took my chance!

It defiantly slowed him down! I timed him with his normal bowl and the slow feeder...

Normal feeder: 1 minute 15 seconds

Slow feeder: 3 minutes 23 seconds

Think it's time to invest!!

You can get some quite complex ones too, which may also increase the time it takes to eat.
