Hi all. I have been offered some rabbits from a friend who shoots them on his land. Are they ok 2 feed 2 a whippet?. How should I prepare. Better raw or cooked. Or should I avoid. Many thanks.

I welcome all comments

great food feed raw

Provided they look nice and healthy.

Wish I could get hold of some rabbits for my dogs :)

They are best eaten freshly killed by the dog in question :) Masta, do you feed them skinned and gutted or as is, albeit stiff? If feeding rabbits, remember to keep worming up to date.

we eat alot of rabbit and dog gets his share cooked and raw , just a note though especially if rabbits are coming off sheep fields look for a clear fluid sac with white dots inside as these are tape worm eggs and if you do find a sac just pull it off and dispose of ,best to cook it after just to be sure none left, the sacs can be found almost anywhere , on leg muscle just under the pelt or around kidneys . rabbits are great eating and in the top three health foods for us .

rabbits are great i love them too, if the joints are stiff i put them in hot water to soften them up a bit then its easier for the dogs to digest.

Hi Gay i feed some of offal (if disease free) in field warm when catch is gutted and rest is skinned and chopped in 2 and fed fresh and raw as you mention worming is paramount
