Just got word that our Quincy kids are doing great things "over there" :) Who would have thought when we imported him from Sweden to the United States that his kids would end up exported back over in Europe and doing great things!!

Yesterday at the National All Breed Show in Kielce, POLAND - Quincy's son Elle - Shannon Down Element of Surprise - won his Intermediate Class, was named Best Male/Best of Opposite for a CWC title towards his Polish Championship!! Two more CWC's to go from what we understand - one has to be at an International and another from a National show. This was his second show since going to Poland!! Congratulations to his owners Janina and Angelika!!

Then brother Francois (Shannon Down Evil Surprise) made the trip to Brussels Belgium and arrived Monday morning and then traveled to Amsterdam HOLLAND with his new owner Deborah Neiborg, who is already in love with the little guy. He will be racing over there as well as warming the couch and bed (all 26lbs of him!!)

Then two weeks ago here in Georgia USA:) brother Spencer (Shannon Down Surprise of My Life JC) went Best of Breed at the ASFA trial on Saturday and second on Sunday!!

Can't wait to watch these boys do super things and now to watch Quincy's second litter out of Dido grow up!! Oh, and I didn't post yesterday but we got DNA back on the other two parti pups and they are both sired by Quincy as well (this was our attempt at a dual sired litter) - and we are positive the 4 solid colored pups are his as well, so now with having the 4 parti colored pups DNA back and all being his we are certain that the entire litter is sired by Quincy - poor Brooks :( So our dual sired litter, wasn't so 'dual'.

Thanks for letting us brag on the guys!!!

 :luck: congratulations  you must be over the moon.Bad luck with the dual sired litter although you just cant be 100% sure until you get the results :luck:

We are basically positive that the solids are by Quincy too - I am going to talk to my friend who has researched color genetics in Whippets and make sure - but I think with Dido and Brooks pedigrees that is nearly impossible for them to produce solid colored pups together. But oh well - we didn't 'loose' anything while attempting to do it. They required DNAing but in the long run, that's not bad at all - we normally DNA our dogs when they get older anyways. Plus, we got a really nice litter out of it - so we are happy. BUT, we will attempt it again one day - when the time is right and we have the right dogs :)

We are over the moon with the boys from Quincy's first (accidental) litter! I will post photos today - waiting on photos of Elle from this past weekend but I got some from his first show as well ;)

why not just have the one sire? surely less complicated and then you wont need dna tests to see who the daddy is?

on the genetics front, i'm pretty sure too that 2 parti animals cannot produce a solid, but if theres any white at all on the pups, then it could be...oh who knows  lovely looking mum and pups anyway  :huggles:

Hi Lalena...2 parti's can actually produce a solid,if by solid you are meaning a main color ie: fawn, blue, brindle etc,etc with just a small amount of white trim? If so,we had a couple of solid brindles in our last litter from two brindle partis.

But I may have read your post wrong...I have been known to do that on a few occassions! :b

First, we had a huge discussion on this list about our dual sired litter and our reasons for doing it. We didn't loose anything over it and not getting pups from boy boys - DNA testing wasn't really a bad thing as we like to DNA our dogs when they are older anyways and keep it on file with AKC. I won't go into our reasons for doing it again because I could go on forever... :)

As for the colors, I know on this list we have people from basically every country. We are in the United States, and here in the states - most of the Whippets are parti colors, not many solid colored dogs here except in racing lines. Looking at their pedigrees (Dido and Brooks) and knowing their background, knowing how the dogs in their pedigrees and how they were marked - there are NO solid colors in their pedigrees, only parti colors - mostly about half color, half white. Unlike Quincy who is mostly made up of solid colored dogs :) We are still waiting for DNA on those 4 pups, but just based on color (they are all marked like Quincy as well - tiny bit of white on the face, toes, maybe a little on the chest and tip of the tail.) we are pretty sure they are Quincy's.

Ah ha, I always thought they were all sired by Quincy so I'm pleased my eye was right but sorry for you not to have the dual litter you wanted.

When looking at colours of puppies you must also consider the colours of the dogs behind them, especially the grand-parents, not just the sire & dam.

I have a dog who is the colour of his father's litter brother - in the 6 litters he has sired there is yet to be a puppy born the same colour even though the mothers were a variety of colours. Maybe the grand children will inherit it.

genetics are a funny thing arent they  had a lot of head scratching when purdey was born, until someone here on k9 explained about how the white on a dog is a seperate gene to colour. so a completely solid dog, no trim whatsoever, wont come from two parti dogs (something about, sorry if i put this badly, the pigment, or lack thereof gene, is a recessive, so for a dog to be parti, it must have inherited this gene from both parents, which means that if both dogs are parti, they only have this gene to pass on, so pups will all be parti coloured.)

turned out that purdey was a throw back to her great grandsire looks wise (white with eyepatch) because both parents have a white pied ancestor, but it wasnt half a shock, seeing a litttle white 'rat' being born in a litter of blacks from black parents
