Just a quick question regarding showing

My daughters started showing a keen interest in showing , she's been attending ringcraft with my mum recently and is booked into a young handlers class in october handling my mums pharaoh hound

She's been handling at ringcraft my mums young whippet bitch and is wanting to enter a few classes with her , now I know she can't just turn up at a show and go into young handler classes the bitch needs to be entered into other classes ie puppy junior but is there a age limit on those classes ?? Does the person handling the dog need to be over the age of 16 ect???

I'm really pleased she's found a hobby she really enjoys and is having fun doing :)

Junior Handler classes are usually 6 to 11 and 12 to 16, 17 to 20. Not sure about the last one! The dogs she is going to handle has to be entered at the show. If the classes are JHA Association ones, they have to be pre entered when the dog is entered. Some shows you can enter on the day.

Hope that helps.

How old is your daughter? For the regular breed classes if she's old enough to handle in junior handling then she's old enough to show the same dog in the breed class, which I think is what part of your question was?

Best of luck :)

Feel free to ask anything else and I'm sure there will be people who can help you or point you in the right direction. Most of your questions should be able to be answered at ringcraft, but are also welcome here.

Tell her best of luck on her course - she'll learn loads and hopefully really enjoy it.

" For the regular breed classes if she's old enough to handle in junior handling then she's old enough to show the same dog in the breed class"

This is what I was wanting to know thank you , she's 7 not far off 8 so she is old enough to do junior handling I didn't realise she could also handle in a breed class presumed she would need to be older

Thank you for your help.

My mums pharaoh may be a little big for her to start off with and I feel she will do better lightly showing my mums whippet gaining her confidence xxx

As far as I am aware there is no age limit to handling/owning dogs in a breed class. I havent actually known for children to be younger than 6, to show in breed classes but I suspect it has been done.

I was quite young myself when I started showing :b

That was just a couple of years ago eh Tracey? :teehee:

I hadn't heard of any official age, but I wasn't sure, however I know that many of the Jr's do handle their own dogs in breed so figured it was safe to say what I did above then I couldn't get anyone into trouble :sweating:

Whippets can be shown on the ground as well as on the table. As your daughters so little it could be difficult for her to get the whippet on the table and perhaps safer for her to stack it on the ground in front of the table. That would make things easier for her I'm sure.

the concentration on her face is so sweet!!
