Hi,

I'm going to move from Sweden to Glasgow this winter and I have some questions about whippetrace in UK cause I race my dog here in Sweden and I pretty sure there is some differences.

What's the difference between Pedigree-racing and non-pedigree racing?`What kind of track do you use for whippet race? Straight, or a "circle" or straight with a bend? Do you race on grass or sand? Which size is the track, how far does the dogs run?How many racing whippets is there in UK? Can you get like a champion title? How many dogs is there in one race?

A lot o questions...I would be so glad someone could answer them...

What's the difference between Pedigree-racing and non-pedigree racing?
Pedigree racing is only open to whippets that are Kennel Club registered. Non pedigree racing is open to dogs of whippet type but there is no requirement for them to be KC registered.
What kind of track do you use for whippet race? Straight, or a "circle" or straight with a bend?
Straights and 'horse shoe' bends.
Do you race on grass or sand
Pedigrees almost entirely on grass. Non-peds some grass some sand.
Which size is the track, how far does the dogs run
Straights 150-200 yards. Bends around 250 yards.
How many racing whippets is there in UK
Not sure, I suppose there must be about 300-400 registered pedigree racing whippets. At Pedigree Open races there are usually 100-150 dogs competing on the day.
Can you get like a champion title
Pedigree Whippets can become a WCRCh (Whippet Club Racing Champion). Non-peds also have champion titles.
How many dogs is there in one race?
Pedigree dogs - usually 4 or 5.
There are 2 Pedigree racing clubs in Scotland - One here and the other is the Scottish Pedigree Whippet Racing Club which I'm about to set a forum for.

Hope that helps. Hopefully we might see you at some of the Opens in the UK next year.

Thank you Nigel,

I'll probably coem back with some more questions later, I hope you or anyone else will be able to answer them as well...
