Question Re Judge/exhibitor

Is there a rule, written or otherwise that says that an exhibitor should not show their dog under their breeder. (Im sure you know what I mean, but this sentence sounds very iffy!! :teehee: i.e. when a judge is from a known kennel, would those people owning a dog with that affix not show on that day?? Thanks in advance for any comments.

Yes , you are not allowed ( KC REG) to show your dog under its breeder , This only came in about 15 years ago , up till then it was quite the `normal` thing to do so , .

Out here you can. But a clear time limit is set. I think it is about a year. Either way, I think it is the not right thing to do. :rant:

Also you can not show under people that have handled your dog or even worked on it as a groomer or live at the same address. Same time limit I think. :*

Whilst technically allowed, I don't think it's in good taste or ethical to enter a dog you own under it's breeder. A judge is damned if they don't put the dog up (gee, doesn't like his/her own breeding) and damned if they do (only puts up his/her own stuff - or substitute friends).

In our system in Oz, a dog you bred may come through to you in Group or General Specials from another judge. This happened with me last week. I judged a group last week where one of my winners was bred by the General Specials judge. I wasn't aware of this until after. It was knocked out by the BIS so didn't come into the ring, but the judge said to me it would have been a difficult decision. :sweating:

One All Breeds Judge I know had her own breeding enter the General Specials ring several years ago and awarded the dog Best In Show. No complaints though. I think it was the dog's 31st BIS. :thumbsup:

Maybe it would be embarrassing but why can I not show my dogs under their breeder (Richard!)

Seriously I think a lot of people would, when judging, be even more demanding of their own stock than that of stock from other kennels.

Why should a dog I bought in (which hasn't happened for many years and I have no plans to do so in the foreseeable future) be penalised because I cannot show it under someone who last saw it aged 8 weeks and that was three years ago?

What is the difference in showing under the owner of the sire of my dog?

What about showing under someone who has used the same stud as I did?

What about showing under someone who has used my dog at stud?

Many questions which we all have to address and I dont see 'the breeder' being ny different.

No criticism Dawn. Genuinely curious to know how happy you would be (are?) to be the judge under these circumstances. Seems to me you couldn't win whatever you did, but I suppose that's true under any conditions. You can't please all of the people all of the time.
