Hi all.. I hope this doesn't sound too basic a question. On the day that we collect our puppy (next week), I want to be crystal clear about what to expect and thought I'd propose what I'm thinking on here so you lovely folk can put a novice right.

  1. worm treatment logs showing treatment @ 3, 5 & 7 weeks old (including treatment/product types)
  2. 1st vaccination certificate
  3. microchip certificate
  4. Healthcheck + vet stamp
  5. Toy or blanket etc with mother's scent
Regarding point 2 (1st vaccination), i assume there's a standard format/document that will have been issued by the vet? Are there any signs I can look out for that might signal a problem?

Regarding point 3 (microchip), I understand that they (the breeder) will have associated their own details against the microchip. How do validate the microchip and then how do we transfer it to our details? Is transferring it to us something we can do on the spot upon collection?

Many thanks

Check your own vet uses the same product. If not, you might need to restart the course which delays things like getting the puppy out and on the ground.

If they don't use the same product, you could go back to the original vet, or ask if your vet can source that product. Or, administer it if you can buy it from the original vet.

In any case, it's a good idea to take your puppy out and about ASAP to start seeing and hearing all the things they will encounter in life, but tucked into your jacket or in a sling or similar. If they aren't on the ground they will be completely safe, and lack of socialisation is considered even more damaging than the risk of disease.

On that note, we have something on socialisation (and lots of other helpful information) in our recommended reading section of the puppy forum. That's not to say stop asking questions, we are always happy to help, especially if we get thanked with puppy pictures!
