My pup is nearly 14 weeks and his biting is starting to get a wee bit irritating (and painful!). I know he is only playing but his teeth are like razors and telling him 'no' just starts a barking match.

I can distract him with toys etc but I feel like we can't play with/pet him properly because of the biting. Is it something he'll grow out of?

Yes he will grow out of it . It is very painful as they get bigger and sometimes it seems nothing works . If I am playing with a puppy and they start biting thats it game over . I will just walk away and ignore them . For some puppies that's all that seems to work .

I always yelp if bitten like another dog would do, find they get a shock and stops them, you might feel a bit of an idiot doing it but generally worked for me

yes, yelping and walking away ends the game if the puppy gets too rough is the best method. You can play bit more roughly with stuffed toy in your hand, but the moment he bites you stop the game. He must learn that biting people is not on, or he may playfully bite a person in the park.
