Poor Flyn's Nose......

4 weeks ago,my beloved Flyn got quite badly bitten by a rat (w00t) .The bloody thing made a big gash on his nose,& he had 2 puncture wounds as well Anyway,it healed pretty quickly,but as you can see from the photo,it has left him with a pink stripe on his nose.I know it isn't a big problem,but every time i look at him & see this horrible pink stripe,it reminds me of that night & gives me the shivers (w00t)

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of it?

ps,he did kill the rat,& it was huge :x .

Ours had one almost exactly the same sort of scratch (both size and position) from a fox, amazingly it went black again after a few weeks.

Last time he killed a rat, it nipped him on the nose too! They're not quite as easy to kill as you (or your dog) might think.

It SHOULD go back to black by itself , but the hair might stay white (w00t) use a bit of makeup :wacko: y

it should go black again but you can trying opening a capsule of vitamin e and dabbing it (generously) on the scar several times a day..that should help

...it has worked for my whippets

It's 4 weeks now,do you think it WILL eventually go back to normal colour?I'm not bothered about white hairs as long as that bloody pink stripe goes away,& no,I DON'T think he'd be too happy wearing make up!! (w00t)

No Lesley,but i don't really want to use lavender so close to his nose on a daily basis as he doesn't like the smell of it :blink: !

When the incident happened,there was blood gushing everywhere,& i just slooshed neat lavender all over the wounds to try to kill off the germs,which in my mind worked,& i did use it for a couple of days,which is why i think it healed so very quickly :thumbsup:

No advice Debbs sorry - hope the scar goes. :thumbsup: Flynn is gorgeous.

My old dog was once bitten on his nose by a collie and I hate to tell you this but the pink mark on his black nose never did go away , but they all heal differently I suppose, and Flynn is younger. :luck: :thumbsup:

If its the pink that is the problem, then its just a matter of time I'm afraid until the new skin grows back with the pigment. So make sure he is getting lots of iron/iodine in his diet (if not kelp seaweed or elderberry/nettle). This will ensure the skin will be pigmented, also lots of sunlight as this helps pigmentation.

Vit E (wheatgerm oil) is excellent for healing and new skin growth and helps prevent scarring so rub this in every day I rubbed it into Stans shoulder every day when he got burnt and lost all his hair, also gave it internally and with kelp, and all was back to normal in no time!

Tell you what though, makes him look quite hard!! :lol:

Vitamin E is a great suggestion. We use that or Colloidal silver.

Chelsea rubbed the top of her nose raw once, and it took a couple of months, but the colour did all come back.

Direct sunlight may not be such a great idea on his nose as sun damage to healing skin can be much worse than sun damage to healthy skin and if the scar gets sunburned, it can prevent the tissue from healing properly.

In the meantime though, you can put a high SPF sunscreen on it and avoid any prolonged sunbaking that he might be (genetically) inclined to do.
