Hi,

We have recently brought a Pomchi puppy and we have named him Pablo. We love Pablo very much & he’s 11 weeks young and he’s been with us since last Thursday (6 days). We researched for months about the breed and we were happy to find ourselves in a position to be owners of Pablo last week. Since Thursday we have witnessed 4 or 5 flash moments of aggression towards us and 2 family members (growing/snappy & he’s snarled once too) . Obviously aggressive behaviour is well documented in Chihuahuas and we have taken advice from various web sites. We’re just a little concerned about the situation and wondered if anyone has experience the same or could pass on any advice please.

We’re due to see the Vet on Monday so this situation will be highlighted to them.

thanks

Could you say exactly what happened before the incidents? Who was with him, were they petting him, playing with him, carrying him? Was there food involved?

Puppy play can look a little like aggression, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that that's what's going on. But he also might simply be unhappy about some aspect of his environment.

Also, what are you feeding him? That can sometimes affect behaviour.

And to add to Judy's list of questions.....how much uninterrupted sleep does the pup get? Does it have its own quiet time/area?

And from me (a retired behaviour trainer) be very careful with vet staff advice about behaviour and training. Unless they have made a specific study of it, they know as much about it as the window cleaner. i have known some shocking advice given by vet staff.

Your pup is a baby with minimal communication skills (like a human toddler). With the information asked for by others, we can explain what is going on and help you to a happy relationship.
