Picture

Its an old photo that I found when googling for something else. :D

will be interested to see some more old pics like that, shows how whippets have changed over the years and the amount of history behind the breed

I've seen this pic before, it's a hurdle race. Is it an Australian pic, do you know? I've a feeling it is although I am not certain.

Could you put the link up please, I wouldn't mind knowing more about it.

Being a hurdle race would explain why they're caught at such a mad angle, i expect they'd just landed on the other side.

Great pic!

Why do you think it is Australian, Linda? The buildings in background look more like UK or Europe to me.

I'm sure I've seen pictures from the late 1800/early 1900's where they "throw" the whippets into the race (before starting boxes?) holding the ear and tail. It was just luck as to whether they landed okay to get a good start on the race.

you must have a good eye for architecture. it is in australia it says so on the site this pic is posted on.

Great picture, it always amazes me how thier pasterns flatten out like that.

Lida a while ago I went into the State Library to have a look through old newpaper articles on whippet racing. I'm not sure, but that might have been where I saw it.

I see Sparky says it's Australian although when I just looked at the site Dawn put the link to I couldn't see where it said that. Maybe it's too early in the morning.

I wouldn't mind hunting up that 1937 National Geographic article though.
