Dear mr/madame,

My name is Cecilia Johansson and I live in Gothenburg,

Sweden. At the moment I take a course in ”dog

behaviour”.

One of the tasks we have been given is to do a project

on our own breed, which in my case is the whippet.

I would be very grateful if you could help me answer

the following questions:

1.How do you think one should train a whippet to

achieve a good basic obedience and what should you

think of?

2.If I was a ”dog instructor” and was going to train a

whippet, what would I have to know about the breed and

it’s characteristics, and what is the difference

between a whippet and other dogs?

3. How do you train a ”race”/lure coursing -whippet

for the best result and what should you think of?

4.To activate a dog means that the dog should work

with its brain. What is a good way to activate a

whippet?

5.Enrichment means that the dog should be given the

opportunity to act according to its natural behaviour.

This should take into consideration the dog’s breed,

gender and personality. What enrichment do you think

is best for a whippet?

6.What kind of reward do you think suites a whippet

best?

7.Which problem behaviours do you think is most common

for the whippet?

8.What diseases are most common to the whippet?

9.Is there anything else you think one should know

about when living with a whippet?

I would be very grateful if you could take the time to

answer some of my questions.

Of course you are also welcome to contact me:

by e-mail: ciccijohansson@yahoo.se

Thanks in advance?

Sincerely

Cecilia Johansson

Hi, wonder why there are no answers yet. But your questions are really tough ;-)

Whippets are of course a bit different. You need to get the trust first and then a whippet follows and really loves to "be your good boy". Try it like you would do with other dogs, but be patient never rough but straight. Every excersise must be short, be always friendly and motivate your whippet (what he likes the best as play or hug) and after every succes be happy and show him you are. Good luck.
