Just out of interest i was wondering if after mating your bitches any of you still run them for a few weeks. My parents have showed and raced pedi's and then we had non peds - once their bitches had been mated it was common practice to treat the bitch as normal for the first few weeks and this included racing.

It seems not to be the done thing by most people now i was wondering if anyone had any views on this. (Just by coincidence the only bitch my parents didnt run after mating didnt take).

Personally I don't race the bitch after she has been mated. Not because I think the actual racing would hurt her particularly. My reservation is because if she got injured and needed medication

it may adversly effect the unborn pups.

I do continue to give the bitch plenty of exercise up to the actual day of whelping. I believe this makes for trouble free whelping. I would normally run her off lead for a mile or two after the ATV. allowing her to go her own pace and stopping to smell the roses if she so desired!

our girls are wrapped in cotton wool after they have been mated, take no chances that what i say.

Yeah - what they said :)

There seems little point to be honest - she is unlikely to be in peak fitness after her breakdown so just normal exercise would appear to be the best policy.
