well today was our first show and poor rupert didnt no what had hit him :( he was very scared when we first went into the hall. anyway he stood very well :D it was the moving bit that wasnt so good :( 1st he looked like he'd never been on a lead and 2nd as i went up the mat i was between him and the judge   but i learnt alot and was pleased with him anyway, after all he was the best dog there in my eyes

he did however look a little lean compered to the others, i'll be intrested to see what those that are going to the whip club show in april think of him :sweating: so when this strange woman comes up to you its me :b :b

it was lovely to meet you teena :D :D :D

Hi Melanie!!

We'll be there so feel free to stop round and introduce yourself. And don't worry - we've ALL been there!! Some of us more recently than others :- "

And well done on today - getting through the first one is the most difficult!!

Well done Melanie and Rupert sounds like you had great fun

Alfie was scared when we went to a show last year, he wasn't actually being shown, just visiting... but he was still scared :b

Well Done on your first show. It does get easier, i've just done my 4th show and felt a lot more at ease, i was the same as you at the first and stood between the judge and the dog because i was more concerned with the dog than notice the judge!

All the best for your forthcoming shows

 Well Done melanie and Rupert and Teena and Lola who got 4th ........... it does get easier and easier ......... keep up the good work

Well done Melanie - getting placed is a great achievement :D

I'm sure Rupert will get the hang of it and not be so scared or kangaroo like! (w00t) I am going up to the whippet Club too so feel free to come and say hi :D How old is he, he may just look a bit lean because he has shot up but not filled out yet.

Well done to Teena & Lola too

Well done on your first show Melanie and Rupert

THANKYOU all for your kind words

JO-- hes 6 months old, i no they sometimes have growing sperts but there were a couple of dogs there with the same sire as rupe and they looked stronger, hes wormed by the vets and thats up to date, hes fed on iams puppy complete and tripe, he eats well so i think i'll up his food abit, i just felt he looked a bit weak, if you no what i mean

Yeah, I see what you mean :D But sometimes even littermates mature unevenly I know that my Archie matured much slower than his brother.

But if you feel he would eat a bit more than I would perhaps give him an extra little meal as its easier to put a bit of weight on by giving him an extra meal rather than just increasing the food in one meal. Little and often usually does the trick

thanks Jo, that makes sence, will def try that

well done mel   hope you have alot of fun with him

i dont know if this will help but here goes.i paid over 500 pounds for a dobermann p.o.l. male from the two top champions about 15 years ago when noone paid that kind of money for a dog.he looked awful at his first shows.dip in his back, herring gutted, flat feet, horrible head,i could go on.suffice it to say he was thrown out at every show he went to ,both open and champ.we carried on showing him but it was a waste of time.anyway we carried on walking him and gradually he started to come right.at the age of 2 years old he was starting to come together and won the res cc against the top winning dobe of all time.the judge ann arch said in her report that when this dog matures hes going to show the top winner a clean pair of heels!we were over the moon,at last he was beginning to mature and look good.but it took a long time.what im saying is,dont give up cos your puppy doesnt do anything as a pup, sometimes they just arent ready.

thanks kris  that was a nice story too :D :D

Lovely story Kris , and its quite true of course , some breeds do take a while to mature . some whippets do too :)) I wonder just how many ugly ducklings we`ve all sold in the past ,that have turned into swans

ah well it happens,we all make mistakes, were not perfect!sometimes you let a pup go thinking it will never come right and you see it ages after and its a beauty that you wish you hadnt sold!the other thing is an experienced handler can make a better job of showing a dog an hiding its faults and showing off its virtues.might be an idea to get a couple of experienced folk go over your puppy and tell you what to hide and what to show off to the judge.

i did think that id ask the lovely :D :D k9ers that are going to be at the club show in a couple of weeks for some help with him :D :D

i also think the end of his tail is a bit to curled :( but that might just be me :- "

at the moment i can only see hie faults, be nice for someone to tell me his good points :) :)

here is ruperts tail, this first one im trying to stand him and take the pic
