Other Animals In The Family !

As you requested JinnyFizz, here are a couple of piccies of my boys. The bay is Jacob and the coloured in Scoobie, my present lad who will turn 6 in the spring and is a bit of a hooligan !

Very different horses - did you make a concious decision to have a complete change from Jacob?

Jacob was very impressive Such a nice front and long neck - always easier to stay put when there's something in front of you (w00t)

Lovely horses - sorry can't add anything intelligent sounding - but I appreciate a well made animal!

Yes they are very different horses and it was a very concious decision. Jacob was bought by the heart, not the head. Obviously being so tall meant he was also very long. Its certainly true it was pretty difficult to get disloged from him as there was so much of him, but my main love is dressage and he was soooo not built for the job, so we really played at whatever we could. He was too gangly for jumping so really we did a little easy dressage and hacking, as he was safe and houses.

Now my new boy was bought purely for dressage so he is really short coupled, and very, very sharp !!! It has taken a year for us to get to the point where he will work long and low, so he is definitely a long term project, but I really think he will be worth it. The photo was taken last summer, just after I bought him so he had fat on him but no muscle. He looks better now with more topline and less underneck!!

Sorry I should have explained, Jacob was my beloved boy that I lost on Christmas Eve last year. He had been retired in the spring with sudden and chronic arthritis, which is why I bought Scoobie. Jacob then developed a heart condition the week before Christmas and it was not something that could be cured or really treated. So its just Scoobs and me now. :thumbsup:

Come people - where are the pictures of your other animals - would be great to see what we all live with :cheers:

Found some spare time at last :sweating: so here we go ............

These are some of the pics I currently have on photobucket so I'm posting these first (not very good as some of them are off a photographer's website and they are just proofs)

I'll raid the files on our old PC tomorrow and find some better ones!

Firstly may I introduce Black A Brook, aka Rookie, my much loved 12yo TB mare who won me one point to point and is now in foal for the second time, due end of May 2008

Winning her race in 2003 .......

Awaiting the happy event in April this year

And then there was Harry The Horse in 2004, who won me one race before he unfortunately sustained an injury and crossed rainbow bridge

All alone in the front - he was never overtaken!!!

And now I have Ivory Fort (Laddie) - my chestnut idiot whose favourite occupation is self-harming :- "

Here he is racing (goes too fast and wears himself out )

And here he is relaxing in April this year when it was drier than it was for the whole of the next 3 months (w00t)

Here is a picture of Rookie with her foal, Furby, who was born on 7th May this year. Sadly he died on 17th August from a salmonella infection which progressed to septacaemia despite all attempts to save him

And last, but never least, is Twiggy who will be 40 next year (w00t) My amazing old shetland pony who was broken to ride and drive but has been retired for 15 years now and acts as a companion for Laddie (or Rookie when she is at home!!)

That's it for now ....... I shall get busy with more pics of the horses, cats and GSDs for this thread as soon as I get my new camera :thumbsup:

Oohhhh Jane, you have some lovely horses. Rookie looks a complete sweetie, bet you are very excited about a new foaly. So sorry to hear about Furby - life is so cruel isn't it . And poor Harry, but I guess a hazard of the profession. Laddie looks like he is quite a one !! And as for little Twiggy, what a complete sweetie!!! And to be that age and still look so well, thats a credit to you :thumbsup: I had been pondering about the idea of a shetland as company for Scoobs, but I really feel I have enough animals with three dogs, three cats and a horse, oh yes and another puppy on the way at Christmas!!

Really lovely animals though Jane, brilliant to be able to see the other animals in peoples lives don't you think - very good idea of yours :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Do you ride in point to point yourself, or do you do the fittening work? Its all a bit too fast for a precious dressage rider like me :sweating: :huggles:

Horses do like to have company, don't they? Twiggy has been so useful over the years as I normally have 2 horses at home so when I ride one Twiggy is always there to keep the other company. She's very worldly wise as well so she never gets into trouble - just keeps herself out of the way if the big boys are having a silly fit :lol:

 

As for the point to pointing ..... I leave the racing itself to those intrepid, fearless people known as amateur jockeys :wacko: I'm far too chicken to get involved in perching perilously on top of 600kg of fit thoroughbred and galloping at break-neck speeds in a bunch of similar diehards - especially when there are some 19 fences between you and the finish, 3 miles later (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

 

No ..... I just do all the work at home and I'll do the jump schooling too, provided I can be in front :teehee: :thumbsup:

 

Agree with you it would be great to see everyone's other animals ...... cats, horses, sheep, other dogs etc

 

So come on you K9ers out there - get posting, pleeeeeease :cheers:

My Hubby had racehorses , all I have had are welsh ponies/cobs and coloured cobs,did pony club yrs ago but haven't had a horse for 4 yrs and really miss them.

I will try to dig out some pics later
