One Quick Visit To The Vet Was All It Needed .........

We, at Scruples Whippet Rescue, have recently collected a little 11 weeks old pup from his breeder.

Poor little lad didn't even have a name, so we have called him Jim :wub:

The breeder (if you can call him that!) said "he's got a dislocated leg but it doesn't stop him running and moving about"

To say we are shocked is an understatement. Little Jim was taken straight to the vet for assessment and it has been established that he probably dislocated his elbow some 3-4 weeks ago and was left in agony. The joint has grown out of shape now and the short and long term implications for this little chap could be very difficult indeed

He is visiting a specialist orthopaedic vet today and we will know more by the end of the day but, in the meantime, meet Jim - our special little puppy - who is so accepting of everything and so very affectionate too :wub: :wub: :wub:

Don't worry everyone, Jim was picked up and is being fostered by me and I'll keep you all up to date with his progress. Prepare for picture overload because he so cute :wub:

A couple of corrections to Jane's post ... it is thought that he injured himself when he was 3 or 4 weeks old, not 3 or 4 weeks ago ... the injury is so old that it no longer causes him any pain, although the odd way in which it forces him to walk can't be comfortable. And it is a sighthound specialist vet who he has seen today, the orthopedic specialist is next week.

It is looking increasingly likely that Jim's elbow joint cannot be repaired surgically at this time and that we will need to manage him carefully to avoid his deformity putting any further strain on his growing body and then reconsider surgical options once he has finished growing. For now he will stay with me as he is going to need considerable further rehabilitation and a more detailed assessment of his particular needs before he is rehomed.

I am just so angry that this little guy has all this to deal with when he could have been leading a normal life if the person who bred him had been paying more attention and got him the care he needed when he needed it, 8 weeks or so ago.

Meanwhile Jim is getting on with being a puppy ... we're one cushion fringe and a book corner down, and are back in the groove re. the 4am wake up call to be taken out for a wee

There ought to be a way of disqualifying people from breeding if they do such dreadful things as neglecting this injury - unbelievable :rant: Glad to hear that he isn't currently in pain from the problem and I'm sure that if a way can be found to get him moving normally you will find it. :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: to all concerned.
