I just heard the news about the family

who brought a bag of grapes and left

them in the fridge for a few day and

when they opened them found a six

month old taranchula clinging to them

I always keep away from the boxes of

Bananas when they come in at work

looks like i will have to avoid the grapes

as well now. And i will be inspecting

any that i buy and bring home as well now

is that a new story???

there was a family a few years ago that bought grapes from sainsburrys and put them in the fridge cause they still had some left on the table from the last ones, and a couple of days later when they went to take them out, there was some exotic spider in them, they cought it and sent it of to be examined to see what it was, but they said they had looked it up on the net and thought it was one of those deadly poisnous ones. and some expert on the telly said that it was just a plus that they had kept it in the fridge as that would have stopped it from wanting to wander,

sainsburrys were looking in to it.

i never saw anything else about it but it has always freeked me out as im seriously aracnaphobic and i love grapes :(

i have never bought them from sainsburys since and i alway put them in a basin of water (most spiders cant swim to well) and take them of the stock, put them in a bowl the min i get in :sweating: :sweating:

i would be traumatised for life if that happened, i was pretty traumatised by watching that tv interview

i knew it 2002!!!! it was tescos not sainsburrys, (i was sure it was sainsburrys)

black widow spider ahhhhhh!!!!! sorry but ill never be buying grapes again at this rate :( :(

found this on a website

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency released a fact sheet with safety tips should you find a black widow spider in your grapes. They recommend:

Treat any spider with caution.

Get rid of the spider without touching it.

Wash your grapes under running warm water.

If a spider falls into the sink, kill it, rather than capture it.

The grapes are safe to eat after the spider is removed.

Did you know?

The neurotoxin in black widow spider venom is called latrotoxin. Latrotoxin works by causing the release of the neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Symptoms of a black widow spider bite include pain, swelling, nausea, sweating and breathing problems. Although people can be killed by such a bite, most people recover within a few days.

right im stopping looking now :( :( :( :(

Oh what a mean teacher stealing of a little kid

I'm always terrified of finding half a maggot in an apple (w00t) :- "

Of course, another lurking fear is the advent of African Killer Bees in this country

And no, I don't do spiders either :sweating: ....... especially the foreign ones (w00t)

Im the same if there is a blemish on an Apple

i cant eat it...... in case there is a maggot inside :x

I've just read all these posts from the last one first so I could scroll up the page in case there was a photo on the first one. I can't even play spider solitaire cos of the spiders that drop down the screen at the start of the game...ugh :sweating:

When I buy tomatoes I always take the stalks off in the shop cos they look like you know whats. People probably think I'm dead mean & don't want to pay extra for the stalks :teehee:

And I've just bought some grapes tonight which are in the fridge but Neil has gone to bed so I can't get him to check them for lodgers. Have to make sure he gets up first tomorrow :- "
